Default UMW Tune

After reading countless threads on tunes for my new to me 05 X50 car I decided to go with UMW. After talking to Kevin the decision was easy, he is so helpful and generous with his time to give advice. That said, WOW, what a difference, it is night and day. The car is much more driveable at low speeds and the mid range to top end is such a big difference. The car just does everything better!

One nice unexpected bonus is how much easier it is to get off to a nice casual start from a stop, the motor does not want to die anymore when you are casually disengaging the clutch. My wife even commented that the car is much nicer to drive and she never notices anything, just happy to have the top down and wind in her hair....

Nice work Kevin and thank you!

Don Johnson - how tough was it to do the boost spring? I'v had the same flash and spring for 2 months but just too busy to install. Was it a DIY job?

Thanks

Installing the tune took 3 minutes and the instructions are straight forward.

I did not install the 1 bar wastegate springs, doing that later. Tune only seeing 1.1 bar in second gear and 1.1 to 1.2 bar in higher gears. I know the wastegate springs will add even more and help spool up faster but for now just did the tune. Kevin said no problem adding springs later, the tune does not care.

Wow. Man I'm glad I asked. I thought the tune/wastegate spring would be more closely related. Glad I'm wrong. I'm going to jump right on this.

Any other tips or just follow the instructions?

just follow the instructions. The only trick is you have to have the cable plugged into the computer, and right click the application and Select "Open as Administrator".

I did my tune from a small flashing device Kevin sent me, no computer required.

Don, congrats on the new power. I been in the shop most of the day and didn't see your post. I thought for sure that you would be calling once you received the programming unit.

SSST, Don did not purchase the datalogger. He flashed his car with my programmer. Very quick and easy to get the job done!

For those that have purchased my flash recently.. I do Thank you...

Thanks again Kevin. I installed the tune last night after work and we are headed to our AZ house now, looking forward to an early AM run in the car! I will give you a call next week to discuss the wastegate spring upgrade.

Car runs awesome!!!!!

Talking

Welcome to the club! I've been joining it a step at a time for the last 6 months. Started with Kevin's LWFW and heavy duty clutch kit, then added the 997GT3 SSK that he recommended and recently took the plunge with his flash and wastegate kit for my X50.

As many others have stated, Kevin is a stand up guy who is passionate about these cars (he's one of the most knowledgable I've found) and takes care of his customers. He always goes the extra mile to ensure that everything works as promised. I couldn't be happier with my car at the moment. Runs like a top and Kevin's stuff always manages to exceed my expectations.

My rear tires are hating him at the moment however...

Did my tune today - fantastic. Drivability is 100% better, as is the idle. The car just pulls and pulls throughout the revs.

I still can't get to 130 in 4th but I seem to get there quicker, but in 3rd gear 50 to 105 is unbelievable.

Looking forward to installing the 1 bar spring.

Other than buying the car, best thing I've done.

3rd gear is insane isn't it?

I need to buy a case of "Oops I crapped my pants" for my victims... I mean passengers.

50 to 120 to 50 in about 11 seconds... There is no substitute.

Everyone with UMW flash should get the datalogger. It is inexpensive and gives a ton of info. Also peace of mind.
