Hi JohnAnthony, that's me and my car, heard someone stopped by today, I was at the beach. Sorry I missed you. Thanks for posting!

Regardless of the mileage of @T2 car, it looks amazing. Something about the aero lip and stock wheels/spacers. Makes me want a nice original version of mine lol.

I'm a random WSJ reader and old RL member (hence my user name is my actual name) and hopeful 996TT owner (on the search for one) who found this thread.

So great. I read every post in this thread tonight. Chuckled at some of the prices from 10+ years ago.

Congrats @T2 on living the dream in a car you love.

Thank you, those are GT-2 width stock rims.....all things considered, the car has aged very gently!

I always enjoy this thread when it pops up, as it reminds me that as compared to T2 my car at 227k miles, well - it's journey has just begun - even if I myself, am rounding the clubhouse turn!

80k miles on mine. Underneath is bone dry with not a single rusty bolt. Car spent its entire life in southern California before I bought it. Only issue I have is the dreaded foam coming out of the HVAC vents I plan to fix ASAP.

That's awesome. How has the trans held up?

He's on his 2nd one apparently. Most manual transmissions are more or less toast by 150k-200k from what I have experienced.

I just re-read this thread and apparently this car is an X50. Those bigger K24 turbos probably contribute a bit to longevity..

Definitely. I wish mine had come with the hollow twists. I would have left them alone!

Well on the way to 1m, bravo.

When you had the engine apart, did you upgrade things like the lifters and buckets to 997 units, or stock with the 996 ones?

Cheers,

My first Porsche a 944 I bought with 250,000mile on the clock and I sold it with about 290,000 for more than I paid for it. That's when I knew Porsches are special. Now my tippy has 32,000 and manual has 70,000 and i live in a place with excellent public transportation. I wish I could drive more. Here most people sell cars around the 50,000 miles range. So sad.
