Need help with loud exhaust
I purchased a used Race Precision exhaust from a Rennlist member a while ago, and had it installed last week.
The exhaust is beautiful--stainless steel throughout, really nice tips, and outside the car sounds beyond fantastic--deep and just perfect.
But........
Inside the cabin, the car is now DEAFENING to drive. It reasonates and the rear window (or something back there) vibrates under load. It is way too load inside the cabin for my wife and I even find it annoying. My mechanic told me that with 996tt exhausts, typically they are one-piece units and there's nothing you can do to reduce the volume (I am more concerned about in-cabin volume, but I guess they go together...). I read on the Speedtech website they offer an insert for their system that will reduce volume and drone, but nothing is offered by Race Precision that I can see. I have contacted the owner to see what he has to say.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for these issues--or any creative thoughts here? If not--I'm going to sell this exhaust (which I would hate to do--its really a beauty, and sounds great outside the car!). Its too race-day for my day-to-day driving now.
I'm desperate here folks-as I want to keep the exhaust if at all possible--any help would be appreciated!!!

Take a look at (and listen to, if you can) Europipe. It's a great sounding exhaust and is beautifully/solidly built.
Just last week there was an older guy (40's) on a very nice sport bike following me stop and go through a couple of lights on a divided four lane road. He finally pulled up next to me at a light and said..."wow, your car sounds phenomenal from behind." I think it sounds even better from inside the car.

40's is not old, you young whippersnapper.
My stock 911TT cab is too loud to talk on the phone at highway speeds with the top closed. Surprisingly it is much quieter with the top down. That said, if you are not going to be racing the car, they are fast enough. You need to be able to live with it.
Of course I'm in my 50's which is ancient.

"Older" because around here it is indeed rare to see anyone over about 25 on a high end sport bike.
Not "older" as measured against my advanced years...

I'd prefer not to change systems as this will involve the hassel of taking the recently installed exhaust off, selling it and shipping, and buying a new one and installing...cost $$$$$$, hassel + I really like the sound and looks on the outside of the car of this system (just not the inside)--so my first choice is to find a fix for the current exhaust.

This may help. I noticed that if I take out my sub and carpet to get to the rear struts, the exhaust is a lot louder! Adding some sound deadening may help and should be pretty easy...

What you have is drone times two.. There are numerous exhaust systems out they that are in the 2nd and 3rd generation to try to re-engineer and remove the drone. You won't be able to modify the exhaust without a re-design of the mufflers. A quick fix is to install your stock exhaust and look for a Europipe Stage 2 Quiet..

Mikelly installed sound dampening Dynamat (or similar product) around the rear inside the car.
I think he documented it either on 6speedonline.com, renntech or renntrack. I am considering doing the same to take the edge off the drone.

Anyone know what the material he used is called?
BTW--Kevin--going back to stock will be my next solution, but I will try this option first.

Sorry, But I couldn't find the information about the product. I bought it through JC Whitney, but don't have the carton or the paperwork. Dynamat would be a perfect alternative.
