This is due to the performance side of Porsche not being integrated in ordering. They work on email and faxes to ship products to the normal side of Porsche. Price more than doubled in 6 weeks...

Hey guys, I'm trying to DIY the on my 996tt

I know there is no step 5, but does anyone have the pictures/steps for the missing steps (8, 9, 12, 17)?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Great thread.

Any idea how the 997.2 IC might compare to the 996 GT2 ICs?

Go and look at the 997GT2RS specs and compare that to the X50. Boost, HP and torque across the RPM band.

surely the differences in the gt2rs numbers vs stock x50/gt2 numbers cannot simply be attributed to larger(?) i/c's alone! can they!? thought the gt2rs was bigger build etc etc than any stock 96t.

can anyone answer what is either fundamental difference? or the difference specifically between 996 gt2 i/c's and gt2rs ic's?

i get there is a difference, but what might that be?

You didn't get my point then...

The 997.2 3.8ltr Turbo has the very same IC as the 997GT2RS..

The new IC are more efficient. The foil(aluminum corrugation) and fin technology/design allows more heat transfer vs the X50/GT2 IC's. There is ZERO difference in the fin/foil between the standard K16 and the X50 IC EXCEPT, the X50/GT2 IC has the fins extend past the core assy. Roughly 3/16" You are creating more surface area to cool the charge air, but not enough to run higher boost and boost as high and added displacement of the 3.8ltr TT. Look at the torque that these engines make vs the X50.. Overlay the stock torque curves. The VNT turbochargers are working harder delivering more boost sooner and longer thru the RPM curve (stock vs stock).. The new IC's have to work harder>> more efficient.

You can buy a set of 997GT2RS IC for $1300.

x'lnt explanation thanks i appreciate it, and from it i also see that the higher numbers you alluded to that the 3.8's vtg turbos produce that are at least partly the result of the 3.8 vs the 3.6 of the 96t platform. and not merely the i/c's.

so does this all come down to more efficient heat transfer/cooling? sorry if these are dumb questions. these distinctions have never been quite clear to me.
