Ah, that makes sense. I didn't realize that was what the pic was for. I thought you removed that huge section off the top of the muffler for this mod

What about drone?

I'm going to remove the muffler and see what muffler bypass sounds like as well.

I get no drone at all at 1" Diam. I might be going 1.5" soon. About the muffler bypass I drove a 6TT for 1 day with it on and its really really loud, the drone is really bad. I guess is OK for a track car, but for a DD is way too loud IMO, the car sonds like a dump truck, the only cool part is that you can hear the Turbos spooling.

How much sound change did you get at 1" diameter?

Not a lot, the car sounds a bit deeper, nothing like a NA car but definitely a bit better, on the outside you can definitely tell the difference, the car sounds deeper. Some people have gone as far as 2"+. You can always start with a small .5" and slowly increase the diam. until you like what you hear.

LV,

Good luck with the new member of the family.

Watch out with your rear wheels, they had factory spacers and IIRC different torque specs.

Be careful with the 'poor man's' exhaust mod. There is a point where the drone gets nasty-and there's no going back.

Thanks for the info on the exhaust. I'm going to start at 1" and see what happens. Where does the nasty drone get reported at?

As far as the spacers, I'll check the manual to make sure I don't screw that up.

Sorry, I chickened out on that mod years ago.

Although I see at least one endorsement above, one man's symphony is another's headache.

A search about 'drone' on this an other sites should reveal the point on no return.

If you are going to proceed, I'd start where ME said @ 1/2".

dell you should look into the spi L2 package; it's an incredible bang for the buck. it's a protomotive tune with switzer's billeted turbos and exhaust. for 6k you can't go wrong

Thanks! I really love the wheels as well. I was thinking of having them painted. While I think the design is great, I just think they look TOO silver. I was thinking something like GT silver, Gunmetal, etc.. Just trying to figure out what would work best.

I am having a set of hollows painted black for the track. Those are going to look sweet!

Dell,

I just got my turbo twists painted in GT Silver. Mine is Seal Grey and if you want, I can take pics after I clean the car this weekend to give you some idea what a grey w/ GT Silver wheels look like. The wheels look gunmetal now w/ brake dust, LOL.

I was also considering a glossy black and guards red (like the GT3 RS), but figured red would draw the opposite reaction than mine. I was very close to choosing black, but my SA raved about GT Silver.

As far as exhaust, just get one! The factory exhaust has some pretty restrictive cats (400 cell, I believe). My Milltek has 200 cell cats. It sounds great on my 45 min drive to and from work; and the sound really opens up at WOT. You'll gain at least 20hp easy w/ just exhaust.

And then, after that, you'll want ECU flash, hehehe. If mine didn't already have GIAC software, then I would have gone for Softronic.

No problem... had I known last month, then I would have taken some pics at C&C since I was parked next to another 996 Turbo w/ the factory bright silver turbo twists!

STOP WITH THE MOD SUGGESTIONS!!!!!!
Well, you started it w/ suspension... and you gotta finish what you started... ECU, exhaust... oh yeah, have you heard about the 6GT3 front calipers and rotors upgrade...

Congrats Dell! Slate is an awesome color, love the wheels too.
Re the exhaust, just get a good aftermarket system and save the stock stuff .
