Default please convince me that i should buy a 996tt.

im about to sell my 993 and thought i would purchase a 993tt or a 997 but over the past several days of hanging out on RL and reviewing the prices on ebay, im starting to think that the single biggest bang for your buck is a 996tt. but seriously guys the 996 is the step child of the porsche family -- it has depreciated like crazy and is utterly unloved by everyone but you guys. tell me why i should buy one. thanks

Have you driven one? The car speaks for it's self... It is only the stepchild because it is the first of the water cooled 911's. It has proven to be a very good 911 indeed.

I also think you need to drive one - but for a different reason.

My 996 TT is very different from my 964 - and so I would expect very different from your 993. It depends what you're looking for in the replacement - but I think a 993TT and a 996TT will be quite different.

Sounds like you're talking about the Cayenne.

All Porsches of the evil Dr. W era depreciate...simply due to overproduction...Carreras, Boxsters, Cayennes.

997T prices will be no different from 996T prices in a few years.

The 996T is perhaps the best daily driver supercar on the road today...amazing reliability and performance. Ask RL member "T2" about his 03 X50.

They are a frigging blast on track and a great daily driver. I can't wait to try mine in snow

Please the 993 guys are always trying to trash the 996 when it is truly an awesome Porsche. To each his own Don't buy one, live with the 70s design.

Yeah if you want old tech, old interior buy the 993 turbo. If you want better tech, way better interior, bulletproof racing block, etc... buy the 996 turbo. Either way it won't matter because we will all still
enjoy our turbos!

My car is an 02 X50, with a few mods.
It's a daily driver, yet it's faster than a new 997TT (for a fraction of the price), and better looking too!
At the track the only car that can keep up with it is a friend's brand-spanking-new 997 GT3RS.
Nough said!

Why all the hate towards the 993 turbo?

My .02 is, yes, by all means, by the 996 turbo as their values have dropped sooo low now is certainly the time. All that technology for such a low price -- heck, I may even join in.

Case in point, I cannot even buy exhaust gaskets for this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...Q5fAccessories

If you need to be convinced, I would say don't buy it. It was only Porsche's Flagship, I am sure it is actually a pain to drive and expensive to maintain, and looked at as intermediate equipment, etc, etc.

However that being said that only reason that I can think of why you would ever need to even ask this question would be due to the fact that you have never driven one. If you had, you would have absolutely no need to ask such a question.

Porsche 911 Turbo - it is quite simply the greatest expression of who we are. PORSCHE

Except those who own both 993 and 996 Turbos.

Ditto.

I want one because they are awesome cars, that and I've wanted a Porsche since I was a little kid. Probably something to do with a radio control black 935 my grand mother got me.

My "secret evil" plan is to have both a 930 and a 996.
996 is a super car "bargain"...
