Just put a down payment on a 2002 Red 996TT with 37k miles. It is in excellent condition and snapped it up for $42k. Did I get a good deal?

I'd say so....nice find....congrats and welcome to the forum. When you say it's in excellent condition, does that mean you had an independent PPI done on it or are you basing that on a test drive and overall appearance?

Depends....clean PPI, no accidents., no over-revs, no second gear pop outs, no paint...all confirmed without relying on the dealers' representations?
Nice find- Enjoy

Thanks guys! I will be personally inspecting the car when I pick it up and before the final check passes hands... I am very mechanically inclined and have heard more good things about the 996tt than problems, so I don't want to dwell on any minor things that will take away from the enjoyment...
It is at a M.B. dealer right now and they have done their inspections, but I plan on double checking everything and using this post as a guide for 996tt quirks... https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...heck-list.html
Hopefully everything will check out and I will be enjoying the ride about this time next week!
Thanks again!
