Default 3rd Party Warranty on a 996 Turbo

Hi!
It looks like 996 Turbo prices may be coming down to where I can afford one as a "3rd car". Likely looking at one in the 50k mileage range from 2001. Any recommendations for a good 3rd party extended warranty company? Most that I've tried to look at don't seem to cover 911's. What are the typical prices?

Thanks!

Try Fidelity or Total Shield.

I just got coverage through Genuine Warranty Solutions for my (new to me) 2002 911TT. It's their Factory/Exotic coverage which is an exclusionary policy--all policies are unlimited miles, so you can drive the heck out of it

I got a really good deal (to me, anyway) through warranties4wheels.com--go on their site and request a quote, I dealt with Stacy.

Thanks for the lead. I just submitted a quote request, although their website is absolutely terrible.

The online deals you can get in California are pretty poor.... make sure you read ALL the fine print.

Coverage you can buy in the 49 states is entirely different in CA.

I had an aftermarket warranty on my Cabrio. It was overpriced and I ended up using about half of what I paid. They were difficult to work with, but it did give some peace of mind. IMO I wouldn't get the car unless it has a Porsche CPO with that "extended coverage" the folks on here are talking about. Good luck and enjoy your car!

Aftermarket warranties are generally a waste of money, esp on a porsche. The cars are generally very reliable and you are betting that you are going to have a catastrophic failure, which is extremely remote. The companies are all a PIA to work with and weasel out of almost every claim, don't waste your money. Unless it's a porsche cpo type of deal you would be dollars ahead just putting that money in the bank.

I got quote yesterday on a 02 TT with 25k miles from US Fidelis and for the "bumper to bumper" coverage I was quoted $5295 for a 5 year/80.000 miles warranty..
is that a good deal? it seems very high, has any of you dealt with US FIdelis before??

I've been doing some 6 & 7TT shopping lately, and a name that has come up a lot for warranty has been Mercury Insurance. Guys seem to be getting quoted roughly 3K for 5 years + 100K miles on 6TTs, and I've heard some good things. I am curious if anyone on this forum has a warranty through them and what your experience has been with claims.

It's really hard to tell on these aftermarket warranties, because what often happens is they open up as a risk retention branch of some other insurer, collect premia for a couple of years, and pay out claims readily for a couple of years. Then they start seeing an explosion in claims, get really tight on paying out, and go BK as soon as possible. Then start up and go again. So if I personally were to buy a warranty from someone outside of CPO, I would investigate who actually underwrites the policy and how long they've been in business, and would actually avoid anyone who was on the retention side of a shoddy insurer. Also I personally would avoid companies domiciled in states with liberal BK laws or enforcement, like Florida, but that's me , risk averse!

My brother ownes one of the largest VW used dealerships in NY and he thought Vehicle One had a good policy for an 01 Turbo I was looking at. I tried attaching a generic contract but it's too large for the post. If anyone is interested in it just PM me your email and I will foward it . The nice thing is you can go to almost any mechanic you choose. I've also heard good things about GE.

await for the PPI of 2002 turbo that I am going to pick and pay around 3 pm today.
The current owner has fidelity warranty service, gold plus plan, which carried since June 2006, and will expired in June 2010, for 4years/80000, with $100 deductible. I saw his receipt was $2786.

By the way, it is tiptronic though.
