battery for turbo
Am posting this here as well as to the list. Sorry if this is bad form...first post since getting new ride..traded '90 C4 cab I had owned since '95 for '04 Turbo Cab. WOW. I really didn't intend to buy it but it was such an opportunity...Certified '04 with only 6k miles on it. Dealer sold it and the owner traded it on NEW turbo (wanted Tiptronic,go figure)!! Anyway, love the car. It is going to need a new battery and rubber in the spring. Suggestions for battery and tires? Anyone have any experience with putting an AGM battery like an Optima in a turbo? Worth it and will it fit? I'd also appreciate recommendations for tires. I drive car daily and don't use it on track at all. Thanks. John Grobman

Yes, people have installed AGM style batteries (Optima, Braille, et. al) in 996TTs.
If you do a search, you will find several threads with pictures, P/N's, etc.

Please put me down in the NON (Michelin) Lemming category.
I like Continential OEM N spec tires......and I put in a new OEM Porsche battery (from Sunset Imports).

My dealer suggested an Audi battery when it was time. Half the cost with the identical specs... same battery. (yes - they surprised me with the tip)
$106... dealer was happy and I was happy.

I've used Interstate batteries in both cars for years and have been happy with how long they lasted. I do like the idea of a battery like the Optima that doesn't have the corrosion potential of the traditional battery. Careful vent tube routing has made that less of an issue with the lead acid batteries.

I put in a rennline holder and an odyssey (the bigger one...). No issues.
This is the first "winter"...we shall see. I drive in snow and it is superb (snow tires).

I will second the Yoko tyres, but the Advan Sport, not the Neova . There wross, that makes it two non-michelin lemmings .
As to batteries, I always put in the OE Porsche, but I have optimas in other vehichles and like them.

WROSS: How come anyone who doesn't go along with you is a Lemming? I'm running Michelins and just put a new set of rears on yesterday becasue the rears run out at a rate of 2 to 1 on the fronts......

(but next time around I'm looking into the Yokos as a suitable alternative to the expensive Michelins)
