Default What makes the 996TT "bullettproof"?

I am heavily researching 996TT's for a purchase in the late winter/spring.

What makes these vehicles more "bullettproof" than the NA 996's?

From what I am seeing, it looks like the 996TT's are a great value when compared to the 997's.

Other than a clean PPI, is there anything that I should look for?

The M64/GT1 derived dry sump lump in the back.

assuming two vehicles have the same number of miles (2001 vs. 2004). Is there an advantage with going with the newer MY?

I NEVER owned a pre-owned vehicle and am trying to make a best decision possible.

Buy the newest that you can afford>> I would also favor a car that has a CPO warranty

and the transmission, correct? Better than the NA cars.

I am also with Kevin, buy the newest you can afford, and if it has CPO (the Porsche Certified Pre-Own warranty) even better.

Hell, a NA 996 is about as exciting as a Honda Civic......no disrespect intended towards the Honda.

True. I could never get myself to buy one... had to be a 996TT...

Now... the new 997... I drove a manual and a DSG and it really felt good... and if they do start using those engines at the track it will show Porsche has gone back to selling what they race. Something that was missing when the 996NA came out as you could only get those in the TT, GT2, GT3 cars.

Sorry, can't see myself buying a new Porsche.
They lost me when they gave up on the engine/block that worked so well for so long.
I could go along with water cooled vs aircooled using the same block, but the new engine/car is ...... meh.
Just me though.

Tom, I'm unfortunately starting to catch up. I believe it has more to do with the abuse we put on our cars than others may.

I agree that it's worth doing it with this car, if you can afford to keep up with the costs to maintain.

Tom your car is probably the most well sorted/developed at this point, of any of the 996TTs that we see regularly tracked here and on speeds!

I have been searching here for a few days now. I know there is another thread with the same subject, but I am in between a 997S and 04 996TT. I love the 997 looks, I hate the idea it is the Boxster engine or something similar. I love the idea that you can buy a super car that once was $120K for $50ish.... I hate the 996 interior, I mean I hate it! I don't know why I am posting here, maybe I am looking for someone to convince me to buy the Turbo.
