Default Battery charge

All of a sudden my battery won't hold a charge. Needed a jump 2x this wekend. Even after 1 hour of driving, 15 minutes later car won't start. Taking it to dealer on Wednesday. I drive the car a few times a week, never letting it go more than a week without driving.

Any one else have battery problems after only 12k miles? Is it a sign of anything other than a lousy battery? Thanks.

OEM batteries have low lead content to keep costs down so they don't last long. Time for a new battery...

You have to have over 7K miles per year for Porsche to warranty the battery. I replaced mine myself with an interstate, got the interstate battery charger (has a plug-in for attaching the charger cable) and am good to go. If you need more info. let me know.

I don't even have 7K miles on the odometer.
I just run a Porsche battery maintainer (trickle charger). I suppose if the battery dies, it's time for an Optima (with billet aluminum adapter) I guess.

Yes, this is the smart thing to do ...it will add years to your battery...I just didn't like the Porsche one...the interstate one is much easier.

Trust me, it's on the 'things I'd like to do' list.
It's been sitting for over a year now.

Thanks Wross. Hate to go out of pocket for a battery when car is still under warranty, but an '04 with 12k doesn't make the 7k/yr cutoff... just another sign that these cars are made to be driven, not to be 'sittin.

GBG, Not that bad...the interstate battery I got has more cold cranking amps and is lighter than stock...of course you could go real light weight, but for me I need the amps.

I have an extra Odyssey PC925 Aluminum Hold Down I'll sell for cheap if you're thinking of ordering one. Unused.

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/fullsize/hd925sm.htm

The best price I found for a PC925 was at www.thebatterybarn.com

I was thinking about starting a thread to take a poll to see what success, or lack of, members have had with the different size batteries. However, thinking it would just be a re-hash of previous threads. Some say the 680 is fine for frequent use, but others feel even the 925 won't cut it. There seems to be limited feedback, however. I haven't had my 925 long enough to come to a conclusion.

My Optima 34/78 is going out, like you (GBG) I had to jump start. I took it back to Sears and they said that it was good and passed their tests. I brought it home and load tested it by giving it a 15 minute load drain with the high lights and tried to start the car and the relay chattered. I'm going to take it to a friend that has a "Load Tester".

7 yrs and 5149 miles and the battery seems to be on the way out.
Stored for over a year and a half (don't ask), Porsche Tequipment cigarette battery charger installed all the time.

Finally able Sunday to get in the car and take it out for a short spin, key in, clutch in........click, click, click.

Jeff at Sunset Imports quoted me $125 for a new OEM battery (shipped dry) + $25 shipping. Local Porsche dealer quoted $235.
