Spoiler Failure 996TT
okay so i just got back from iraq and picked up my 996 TT.
i love the car.... driving max speed of 60mph in a humvee made this car scary to drive lol..
anywho, apparently my battery died and it seems like my "spoiler failure" light popped on. i can manually raise it and lower it but this annoying failure light is making my "emaculate" porsche into a "HJLKJ$@)()JD)AJ GO AWAY LIGHT".
the nearest porsche dealership is hundreds of miles away so if i can i want to try to fix this myself.
someone told me that it might be a dirty sensor or maybe it just needs to be lubed... im completely clueless. again, it goes up and down manually but when i hit 75mph or 37mph it wont automatically do its thing and pops failure light at me..

This is a known problem. A search (rear spoiler failure) will yield about a dozen threads detailing it.
It can be the instrument gauge cluster, the actuator assembly, etc.
IIRC, there was a TSB but never a recall generated for this.
Best of luck and Welcome Home

Spoiler warning light comes on: Faults found 9150. Replaced spoiler motor/drive assembly - Part No. 996-512-241-02 (spoiler drive). Spoiler drive was a grey area in terms of warranty coverage... but covered under original warranty as a good will gesture since the car had recently come out of original warranty and into CPO...

WHHOOOOAAAAA new Guage Cluster?
I just started recieving this same error. The spoiler goes up and down perfect, full extension/retraction at the right times/speeds even with the switch.
I sure hope it isn't a new Cluster since unlike you guys i am out of warranty and no CPO down here (Puerto Rico)

ive searched the archieves only to find out its either the motor, cleaning, or the gauge cluster...
the warranty on the car expires while i was overseas...

"oh wells, at least i still have all my limbs to enjoy the car."
Well, when you look at it from that perspective, ANY problem with the car seems pretty minor. Enjoy the car--you've clearly earned it.

If the car sat for a long time I'd try this; at rest manually raise the spoiler, using the cleanest cloth you have clean the riser tube. Then manually drop it. I'd further cycle it several times manually (I mean using the switch on the console). I'm hoping for your sake the thing maybe just picked up some dirt/dust in/on or around the riser and that cycling and cleaning it will get rid of this and get all of the seals etc. to remember how to behave. Give it a try, better than having to go further on the repair.
I'll add my thanks for your service as well, you have my admiration and respect.
