Drove a 01 Turbo with electrical issues
Hello everyone,
I had the pleasure of driving a 01 Turbo 6-spd with 33k miles on it today. The listed price of $69k was quite high for the car given its fair to good condition. It had the emblem out of the steering wheel twisted and the leather was ripped (someone tried to steal it), finish on the inside door handles work, lots of rock chips etc.
So we go out on a test drive and for the first two WOT pulls it was FAST! Everything i expected. Go through a couple corners and the AWD is awesome and the brakes are massive. I tried going for a third WOT run and once i hit 4500rpm, you could hear and feel the ignition cutting like crazy. Try again and same deal, this time with a check engine light and check engine warning on the OBC. Salesman takes over, restarts the engine and tries again. Goes WOT through gears 1, 2, and 3. Then once he lets off he gets a alternator warning and a rear spoiler warning light.
Do the 01's have any common electrical issues and would you feel comfortable buying a 996 Turbo that has the above issues? I'm pretty scared of it considering he doesn't have service records on it either.

Yeah i agree it was way overpriced, let alone the fact they offered me $36k for my 2006 M3 Competition, haha!
I figured a Turbo with electrical gremlins is a problem NOBODY wants to have. I told him to take it to the Porsche dealership across the street, have them diagnose the problem and write up an estimate fix cost, and then fax me that along with the service records for the car. We'll see what comes up.

Continue Shopping... I bought an '01 with 9100 miles on it, a significant amount of suspension and powertrain mods, an interior and exterior in immaculate shape, and I only paid $71K for it.
Mine's pulling 510HP at the wheels and is an absolute dream to drive. Oh, and it's far quicker than a new Z06 Corvette... Ask me how I know!
