Question Tom ( Kerr) Weight Reduction

Hello Tom, you seem to be the expert on this topic

I have;

Spare wheel out
Tool kit out
Non Oem Exhaust
GT3 Seats
Rear seats removed
Sound proofing removed
Carbon Fibre sillcovers
Most extra Carpet mats out
Carpet off lower interior door

are there any other easy kills without removing the CD Air Con etc ?

I am not Tom but I know he will say at the very least, change to an ultra light battery. I think you will save a good 30-40lbs.....

Don't forget THE most important...Wheels...that is unsprung weight...GT3 hollow sway bar, center console delete, some guys are taking out the front diff and going to rear wheel drive...this is a bit extreme, but probably loses a good deal of weight .....in the end, the car is still going to be heavy....Turbo is a great, maybe THE greatest all around car....but a svelte track weapon it is not.

Typically the ultralight batteries (usually drycell) have little reserve capacity but are more than adequate for cold cranking amperage. A good example is the PC680 from Oddessy (http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=ODY-PC680). It weighs 15.4 lbs and will easily crank over the P in cold weather but not for exceedingly long (you get one chance). Its worth downloading specs and taking a look at them. Bottom line is that with this battery you will not be able to sit around with the engine off listening to the radio very long. An excellent trackday battery but not for everyday use IMHO.

The one I use and like is the PC925 (http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=ODY-PC925MJT). Its got a bit more capacity and weighs only 26 lbs. Is a drycell also.

Keep in mind you will have to mess with the tray to accomidate the new battery. One of the best aspects of switching to this battery type is more more wet cell messiness.

Well those guys are fast!! And all good answers!!! GDF was right on, after seeing your list the battery sticks out first. I of course have the lightest around at 13 pounds the odessey 628. This works fine as a normal battery in florida with no cold spells and on the charger every night. I would not recommend it for cars exposed to winter temps it doesnt have enough cranking amps. the next odessey up is around 18 pounds and much more durable.
I put mine on a charger at night and when not driving at the track. If not charged however I have been fine friday through sunday of multiple starts.
You have to make sure there are no drains when the car is at rest and the car is locked to shut down the computers.
Only other things above left out are tires, surprising how much heavier some are.
Brakes, 2 piece floating rotors at least, and PCCB's if you are really serious.
If ALL of above is done I have seen this car at about 3000lbs.
Oh yeah, the new wheel bolts have two less thread turns!!
Have fun!!!

if you feel like changing out parts, try cf hood, lexan windows, I wouldn't advise it but you can always remove the aluminum inner front and rear bumper. remove rear wipers and motor. still will be pretty heavy for a track car, but it will hold it's own.

Has no one mentioned removal of the ashtray? It is the easiest ounce you can get out of the car and less risky than leaving the manual at home. AS

I have used the PC680 in my Audi through a New England with no problems. The car would only be put on a trickle charger if it was going to sit for a week or more. The car cranked fine. In fact, I did a compression check on it once and so cranked it a lot (without spark plugs). No signs of killing the battery.
