What to look for when buying a 996 TT?
Hi!
As I have problems with my 996 Cab I asked the dealer to offer me a 996 TT as a "replacement" What options are a must for the TT? Maybe I will go for a slightly used one (MY 02 or 03) - what to look out for? Anything I can do wrong? And when did they start to use the PCM II? TIA!

Case,
Sorry to hear about the problems with your Cab.
PCMII is a MY03 option. MY03 cars also use the MOST (plastic fiber optic) system to connect the radio, amp and CDChanger.....this makes audio system upgrades much more difficult. Everything before MY03 was traditional analog/wire connections, so component upgrades are reasonably straight forward.

Options on P-Cars are very personal and their importance is very subjective. Personally, I come from the mercedes set, so I look for fine finishing and convenience features, such as full leather, supple leather, aluminum or wood trim, heated seats, and navigation. My next Porsche will definitely have some more unique options such as deviating stiching, deviating seatbelts, etc...
As far as judging a used car, nothing works like sitting in it and driving it. I personally passed over 2 other turbos before deciding that mine was the "right" one. Unless you can get it for a MAJOR discount, do not buy a P-Car sight unseen.

just a point to remember-expensive options bring very little return at trade in time. my own approach is that the turbo is so well equipt that the only option which i selected was heated seats. if you buy a used tt, i wouldn't pay much extra for the options.

Thanks for all your thoughts, so now I'm waiting for the 2nd of June to do some test drives!
@Itc: Well, the problems with the cab are a very good excuse to look for a TT... I guess I want a PCM II as you cannot get up-to-date map data for the older PCM, and you can forget navigating with the old map data here in Europe...
@Trojan Man: I would NEVER buy ANY car unseen...
@docjackson1: Heated seats are a must. I guess I will lokk into "performance options" and add some nice but "cheap" thinks like alu shifter etc. I like the alu stuff pretty much in my cab, just for the feel of the material.
Any suggestions on colors? Black/black, sealgrey and natural brown or even white and grey?

Well, even if the TT is a fine car, I should not risk my life choosing it over HER. You never know what SHE can do....

Hi everybody!
I am back from the dealer. He offered me a 03 Turbo, manual shifter, black interior, basalt-black metallic exterior. Options are a CD-changer, electric sunroof, PCM, phone set, Porsche crest on the wheels, aluminium shifter, aluminium gauges, sport seats, seat heating, all for 133 thousand Euro (to be negotiated on). Unfortunately I could not test drive it. I drove a 03 Carrera 4S instead. Very refined car, very quiet (regarding those cracking noises) compared to my C2 Cab. What do you think, what's missing?
BTW: I will receive a new engine for my Cab, on warranty. Maybe I should keep the C2 now? Hmmm...

That sounds great. Nothing is missing if it suits your fancy. I had to have flat black paint, Aero Kit, Full Carbon Fiber, etc.
It's such a personal decision, the opinions of others should be of no consequence.

Zippy:
Nice looking car. I got full carbon and aero coming so it was nice to see what it will look like. I added a few other goodies such as sport seats with red backs, red seat belts, and red stiching. Only a month away.
