Awesome! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Just out of curiosity...what did they line the car up against?

CJV
Why don't you go to Sacramento Raceway after the bulb and dyno are complete to get your best time. Also now that you have this cooling system in place does a 99 degree day make any real difference in performance as opposed to a cooler day or is it all moot because of your cooling power?

One more question. With the additional power you have found now what do you think you will reach with the new engine? I am assuming that the ultimate goal is 1000 HP but I don't know how you could possibly have enough traction on street tires with that much power.

Forgive me for not knowing ... but why did they kick you off the track ... because your numbers were too good? Car too fast? I don't understand?

On street tires, I'm going to guess you were kicked off based on trap speed rather than ET. With rollbar & 5-points, you're good down to 10 seconds, but only up to 135 MPH traps... after that, you need a full NHRA cage AND a parachute

Thumbs up

Cjv,

So where's the parachute going to be installed?? It's good to know that you don't need wheelie bars!!

[A chute? John, I thought everyone knows the 996 turbo isn't a drag car.

Actually, once Dave Colman is finished on July 3rd, my car's quarter mile runs are over. No more.]

Chad,

Of coarse, a 996 turbo isn't just a straight-line launch go as fast as you can. It is nice to know that the car is very capable. IMHO it is capable of much more in the twisties, and the occasional avoidance maneuver . The car is very sure footed.

I got a real kick out of those drag-slicks you showed me.. Toys toys toys!! Hav fun, and I will do what I can to see the July 3rd runs..

Heh. I actually considered (briefly) putting a 'chute on my Viper. I decided I'd rather get kicked off... you have to hack up the rear of the car to mount one properly.

So when are you going to spill the beans on your run, Chad?

Heya CJV,

If you do go up to Sacramento let me know, my friend Sil and Peter (a modded C5) know the people up there and can try make them be a little more lenient (as they are with them). Those rules were introduced years ago. You'll be fine until 9s with your set up. The main thing they are concerned with is as long as the car goes safely down the track in a straight line as opposed to sideways all-over the place....

What sharkey says is true. Hell, they just chuckled when I ran an 11.6 in my Mercedes with NO rollbar and regular 3-point seatbelts

As for letting your tuner drive -- I let Doug drive my Viper; he's less likely to wad it than I am, after all. I quite understand your decision.

Finally, my fearless prediction for your run (based on 690 AWHP and 3100 lbs w/o driver): 10.5 @ 145

I think Dave's credentials are pretty good, but I think journalists in general have a pretty bad reputation for hurting other people's cars.

Here is one minor example, but I know there are several other photos on the nsxfiles.com website.

Red face

Chad,

If Dave was able to do the last 1/8 in 2.9 seconds, simple math would have your car AVERAGING 155 mph over the last 1/8 mile. (2.9 secs for 1/8 mil = 23.2 seconds for an entire mie = 2.58 miles per minute = 155 mph.) Assuming you were accelerating the last 1/8, your trap speed should have been well higher than 155 mph. Is there an error in my math somewhere, or something obvious i am not considering?
