Best mods for 90%street/10%DE car...
Leaning towards a 996tt+mods vs. GT2.
Thinking of the following mods:
- ECU: Upsolute
- Suspension: ROW or H&R Coilovers (?)
- Bailey DVs
- GT3 Seats
- GT3 Roll bar+cross member
- 6 point harnesses
- BMC air filters
- short shift kit (brand?)
- Track wheels and tires (not researched yet)
Am I missing anything? Any comments or improvements on te choices?
Thanks <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

from what i've read, the H&R's are the way to go. And everyone seems to rave about the support in the GT3 seats and they say they are great for long trips along w/ track days.
I think the only thing you forgot is a new turbo, if you are debating between a 996TT and a GT2, the only way I would take the AWD is w/ a good nother 100 or so horsepower.
but i'm not a porsche owner, so don't listen to me

My $.02:
A three or five day drivers school is likely the best performance investment.
I saw a driver in an old 2.4T targa out pace many of the SC's & 3.2's on the track. When I asked what he did to his car he said that it was stock w 200k miles on the original shocks & suspention but that he did have DOT race tires. I rode w him the car had a lot of lean but he was smooth ad a great driver. I had $20k in mods in my 2.4S and he was still much faster.
Might play w the sway bars to dial out some of the understeer specified by the Porsche lawers.
I should talk, I have most of the mods you could think of on my C2T.
Except for tires & safety gear the rest does not help that much but does add to the look.

Konrad:
Given my preferences for how a sports car should feel/drive/sound, IMHO, the following mods that are essential:
1) coil over suspension w/adjustable sway bars -- I went with the TechArt setup, with which I'm very satisfied, but consider H&R or the soon to be released Bilstein PSS-9's.
2)short shift kit -- I would recommend the TechArt or Ruf kit. Others like the B&M or Evo kits, which are more reasonably priced than the two German kits.
3) RUF exhaust -- you will feel the difference whether or not you go for other power mods.
As for ECU mods, that's a personal call, given the possible effect on your warranty, but I'd recommend you go with a known, proven tuner who stands behind their products.
While the GT3 seats are great, they are not the easiest for ingress and egress and since you say the car will be driven 90% on the street, you might want to consider just getting a harness bar and 6-pt. harness.
Just my 2 cents. Just remember -- life is too short for stock.
Good luck!

cjv,
I have been following your threads on your modified car. The work on your car, and the information that you post on this board is commendable. My goals however are more modest. I am a wannabe mechanic and I like to work on my car on weekends in my garage (which I have equipped with a hydraulic lift to make things more fun). Part of the enjoyment of enhancing the performance of my Porsche is actually doing the work myself. This of course imposes some limits on what I can do (at this time). This is another reason for me leaning towards a 996tt and working on some mods. I would like to get my car to ~500hp with the handling and safety that go along with the increased HP. I believe I can do this for under $20K, but I would appreciate your opinions on this. Thanks again.

Konrad,
I have seen you tear it up on the track and I would believe you would be better suited for a GT2. I have ridden in two and they are incredible and only need a roll bar, GT3 seats, and harnesses to really have a great track car and IMO a good street car.
