I am in software engineering. Like it.

There is a difference between pursue of wealth and pursue of happiness. Don't forget to search for what makes you happy. Wealth is a never ending game and it can consume you. In the end, it's a diminishing return game. E.g. $120K car is not going to be 6x nicer or faster than a $20K car. E.g. You can rent a high end car and enjoy it for a couple of days and that can be the same enjoyment that a billionaire gets when he drives the same car from his collection of 100 cars.

I am at a stage where I can buy any reasonable thing I want. However, what makes me happy is the time with my family (including my parents) and creating music.

Life is a journey. Things and perspectives change. Enjoy it.

TestnDoc:

Doubt it. I mainly do professional lines defense work and represent lawyers, doctors, dentists, pharmacists, accountants, real estate brokers and just about any professional with an E&O type of policy. Most of my plaintiffs work is limited to class actions in securities, pension fraud, 401k and etc.

Porsche Certified Sales Professional.

I sell BMW, Mercedes, Saab, Infinity, Cadillac and Honda too. But my main deal is Porsche/BMW. Certainly the best career move I've ever made. 8 months into it and I know I will never do anything else. I send a lot of customers to Rennlist!

Now Vice Chairman of a "merchant energy" company - power and nat gas. We own power generating units in multiple regions of the US, and have a large retail business in Texas. I was previously President/COO, prior to that CFO. Education was in mechanical engineering, never went to business school but learned corporate finance, etc. through the course of my career. I have now stepped back a bit from the business, and am thinking about trying something else before I retire. This business has been incredibly tough the last couple of years - most peer companies are teetering on insolvency (yes, Enron was one). I have no idea what sort of advice to offer re career selection. I have always been employed in a corporate setting, which does not work for many people, but suited me. I will say that in most such institutions diligence, preparation, and a strong team orientation pay off, and over the long haul the cream almost always rises - notwithstanding the inevitable "politics" of an organization.

In surfing the web, I've noticed that ferrarichat.com is teeming with lawyers. Must pay better than the honest work most of us do on this board. (only kidding!)

Hey ypshan,

You've got that right. Takes a little time to figure it all out, though. UBA smart man.

I was driving my Miata around one morning in Maui when I realized I was having just as much fun as I did in my Boxster back in California. Yup, it's true. Don't lynch me, anyone.

I even sold the house I used for myself there (well, OK, after it appreciated like mad), because:

"You own too many things, and they begin to own you."*

I manage capital, selecting stocks for investors' portfolios, now having outperformed the S&P 500 by 18.8% points the last seven years, and over 35% points the last three.

Thanks again for the mag.s! I just happened to re-read your concern about me driving a lightweight TT in an old thread, and wanted to pass on my concern about your lightweight balance sheet. just kidding!!!!
