I'm buying my wife (who currently has a 400rwhp 965) a 996TT later this year, & want to pre-plan my expenses to get the car to 600rwhp/tq or so.

With casual reading on this list, it appears I'll have to perform the following:

ECU flash
Larger turbos: K24's or hybrids thereof
GT2 intercoolers
decent headers
decent exhaust system

items of question: high-flow cats?? Have OBD testing here to get your sticker
-headers: what's the scoup on what people are dissing?
-turbos: I've heard/read about Kevin's K24's, but it's been too long. I have a wholesale contact for Precision turbo, might just buy new units with external WG's.
-injectors?
-I see the people are running raised boost, but what's controlling that?

600 hp/tq to the rear wheels on an AWD car will cost you $30K.
It's not going be attainable with just bolt on mods you listed.
600hp to the crank maybe.

well I know you don't need to get into the motor, & the management is already there. I'd love to see some invoices on the above referenced. Hell, it takes 30k to get 1000hp out of supra as it needs everything. Hard to believe that programming, fuel upgrades, turbo & intercoolers, clutch + exhaust is going to cost me up to 30k.

A GT700 kit should be close to 600rwhp with race gas.

Mark, I suggest you talk directly with the following folks (I have probably left some out, but you get the idea):

They can give you some real numbers and talk to you about options and what you may or may not need. I know Markski may chime in as well...he has also been very helpful and full of free advice.

Im partial but I would suggest Protomotive(custom one-off)... but for direct bolt on gt700.

First of all , it will depend on what dyno you want to make 600 whp , Dynojet, Mustang , MAHA or a hub dyno. Your results WILL vary greatly. If you are looking for REAL 600 whp which means about 700-750 crank, you have to open up the motor and do rods at a minimum plus some other mods from a experienced builder if your goal is sustained power not 5 sec dyno flash readings or no stress street racing.

IMO you have to do heads and cams plus the usual bolt ons to achieve 625-650 crank hp and done right will make a very fast package which will dust many GTXXYZ tuner offerings.

That is a lofty but very "doable goal"
You are talking much more than GT700 that Ebaker mentioned
(see recent dyno day on 6speed online: GT700 had about 565 at the wheels)
You will have an absolute killer and like PP says (above) you really want an absolute
montster at this level. I/A motor like the man Stephen himself or
GT800 type motor or just be done with it and give Todd and Cynthia a call.
(ala Marksi, VR Alex, Divexxtreme, etc)

At 600 AWD HP there is no question you need to open up the motor and secure the rods, headstuds, valve springs etc. You are asking for a real problem if you don't. 500-520 RWHP is not that hard to achieve peak numbers in this area and be safe. I ran about 30K miles like this. However 600 crank verses wheels is a whole another story. Do not be fooled there is no free lunch. If you are looking for that kind of power a budget of 40K at least will be needed. My car with all the mods on my AWD dyno hits 592 AWHP. That is a doable, but tall order. Then you have a clutch to deal with and so on.

Look at the goals that you are trying to achieve then map out a plan with a tuner that best suits your goals, objectives and can deliver. Guys like my self who drive these every day rain, snow or shine can tell you how each kit responds and what issues may or may not come up during ownership of certain HP levels.

Well, I most definately want bolt-on items that will not require me to get into the engine: I guess I missed the threads where those who ventured this route had to break into the motor: bummer.

A lot of Z06 owners in my area: just don't want to give those a-holes the pleasure of ripping my "more expensive" machine a new one. Ok, Stephen: what's a good route for 500-520rwhp?

That was AWHP big difference between RWHP and AWHP. The GT700 makes 600 to 640 RWHP. Mine did 630 RWHP on pump gas. But you definately want to do the internals at this level.

Mark, I think your original list seems most reasonible and the relatively "standard" way to go. Best advise is hook up with one of the tuners on this board and take their advise!

Sounds like you better off to buy your wife a 1000hp Supra. Then she wouldn't have to worry about the Z06s while saving you $20K.
