So then the type 2 over revs will be overstated to the extent that the shift was still in the new rev limit, but as far as the ECU it will be an over rev passed the factory limit?

Correct. That over limit is not changeable in the check. If you physically raise the stock limiter it trips that counter. The dealer then knows that it was raised electronically and that is only done with an ECU mod. Busted! You can also go in and check the last overrun and how long it was and when it occurred. If that is there they will see it. Hence the no change rev limiter to keep peering eyes quiet.

Great debate guys.

I have an OT question for Shiv...... If you were going for the win in a future C&D Supertuner Shootout and could only choose between an Evo 9 + 50k in mods, a WRX Sti + 50k in mods, a 996tt + 50k in mods, a 996 GT2 + 50k in mods or a GT3 + 50k in mods which would you choose?

Markski in Chicago has an EVO8 that runs 10's in the 1/4
and a 996TT that runs Mid 11's, he could comment!

What is the question? Choose for what? Drag racing, Tracking?

That is sad. I consider that thread on the Turbo motor rebuild to be the single most interesting thread I’ve read on this forum. I still refer back to it regularly.

Thank you gentlemen for an exceedingly interesting discussion of ECU programming!

Car and Driver magazine's annual Supertuner shootout is a competition that measures each car over a run that starts with a 1/4 mile sprint (including 0-60, 0-100mph times) then goes into a road course section and then followed by a 100-150 mph acceleration run and then finishes off with a 150-0mph braking test. Rules require a car to be street legal, street tires with a minimum treadwear rating and pump gas. No NOS allowed. Best run out of 5 counts. IMO the best test for all-round performance by any magazine yet.

Shiv's Evo has done very well in the past so that's why I ask which platform he would choose.

Great question. I'd put my money on the GT2 with 50k in mods. But that car, in particular, is going to demand a very very good driver to run it the way it should be driven. Our test driver, Paul Gerrard (who drove for Autothority a few years back in one of the Supertuner events) is such a driver. He seems to think that the GT2s and GT3s are pretty untouchable if set and driven right. Although I'd imagine that 99% of us would probably be faster in a well set-up EVO since they are so much more forgiving to drive fast..

Cheers,
shiv

Acutally that isn't entirely true, but to quote yourself -

I love helping out, but this where I have to stop on how and what is what in the way things are programmed. Hope you understand.
Hi, I'm John by the way, one of the other brits helping shiv out

The question is what will Shiv bring this year?
