Default Who has the best software (OBD2 download)?

I'm presently looking into modifications for my baby... DV's have been ordered already from Carnewall and I'm still looking for a 2nd hand exhaust...

On the software department the fact of living in a small coutry like Portugal leaves 2 options sending my ECU to someone or buy the software from someone who has one of those gizmos that you plug into your OBD2 port and download (and upload) yourself... Since I'm not very confortable with the first option would you lot give some words of wisdom?

Regards
Francisco

You are going to either have to fly a Tuner in to load your ECU or send your ECU and have it programmed. Your not going to have a Tuner just email you a file for your ECU.

Talk to Stephen at Imagine Auto and tell him you are interested in the GIAC chipswitch...
Should be possible...

Francisco:

Kevin is absolutely right.

Performance software and the process to upload these ECU's are completely proprietary to each tuner and you'll either need to send your ECU out
or visit the tuner with your car.

GIAC replaced the old Chipswitch technology with the new Flashloader Hand-held controller that allows the owner to personally select between various GIAC programs such as: Stock & Performance. Other programming such as Race gas or Valet can be selected if that option is needed.

Please contact me directly if you need further information since we do these (US & Euro) all the time.

Ithought you could just load the program yourself if you got the flashloader. Incorrect?

Big Carrot- Incorrect I am afraid. As Steve said we still need to flash the ecu initially, from there you can manually switch between preloaded programs ie. valet, race gas. The ecu still must pay an initial visit to a authorized tuner, no way around that yet.

I stand corrected! That's the biggest problem that I had with Upsolute, but I guess that's just the way it is.

I think I'll just go with FVD which is one very good company, the price is below average and guess what? It comes with an ECU! I don't need to send my ECU and I can revert it to stock in 15mins!!!

What does the dealer do with the ECU for flashloading? Do they solder anything in it?
I was also under the impression that with the flashloader there was no longer a need to remove the ECU from the car at all...

msindi-you are correct, we no longer need to remove the ecu from the car. All our programming is done via the factory obd2 port.

If you go with GIAC what is the first level of improvement. Can they do mostly improvements via timing etc or is it mostly via boost. Or better yet, how much can GIAC improve the stock car without significant boost changes?
