Hello everyone. I just purchased a 2002 996 TT AWD Tiptronic today. It is Seal Grey with black full leather and sports seats with porsche crest. It has the carbon fiber package (wheel and shifter) and aluminum accents. It has 25,000 miles and is in great shape. The 15K service has been performed, I was able to get all the records, books, and sticker price. I bought it for $79.5K out the door, is this a good deal in your opinion? I haven't owned a Porsche since 1998, my last was a 1989 944 S2 that I bought new in '89. This is a totally different beast and far on the other side of the spectrum from the 2004 ESV Platinum it replaced. Anything I should look out for? I still have factory warranty on the car till the end of Feb. 2006. Thanks for your time and I look forward to being active and learning from the forum.

That price is soo good it makes me want to hurl! I have virtuall the same car + factory aero kit and a few extra little things and I paid C$ 200K (about U$ 158K using recent exchange rates). 80K sounds like a steal to me. Fortunately pricing in Canada is much firmer than in the USA. There is anything but a glut of Turbos up here.
[edit] And oh ya... congratulation on the beautiful new car. Now start spending all that cash you saved and pep her up a bit!

Thanks for the kind words Mike. I do look forward to putting a few modifications on it. I am surprised how docile the car is for normal daily driving (until the turbos spool ), far different than my 2002 Collectors Edition Trans Am WS6 Convertible.
I see you have a supercharged Suburban. I used to have a 2002 Z71 Suburban 5.3 liter that was Paxton supercharged (along with a few other modifications). It was a blast to drive! I cannot imagine how a blown 7.4 liter must feel!
Take care

OK deal. The low average (bottom 10 cars) with 6 speed and less than 25k miles is $80k. So you should pay less for a Tip, but with the sport seats you didn't get ripped off or anything. Just not a smokin deal like a couple of others I've heard of (2001 15k miles for $65k ).

Thanks for the comments and advice. I will check on the Tip service.
I actually bought the car for~ $77K but after taxes, fees, title, and a set of new tires... it added up.

Escalade to a 996tt?? Yes, that's quite a change and you have a lot to get used to!
My '02 turbo's in-service date was around the same time. Sounds like you don't have the carbon fiber "package" just the wheel and shifter/brake handle option. Make sure the plastic portion of the wheel hasn't cracked (most do). Porsche's defective parts replacement warranty is only a year or two, but they will generally make good for the full 4 year warranty term. You've got some time to go over the car and get familiar with it before the warranty ends - use it wisely!
By the way, turbo's have been dropping in value about $1k per month since new...here's to hoping they will finally level off in the $70k's range - best of luck with the car!

Congratulations! I was on the verge of the tip for my 02X50 but opted for the 6speed at the last moment. I think you've made a fine choice and got a good deal. It is worth something to have all records and a warranty. Better still will be your impressions of the deal at year 1, 2, and 3. AS

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, it is a huge change from any of the 11 vehicles I have. The depreciation on the 996TT is not as bad as some of the other vehicles I test drove, I hope you are right about them tapering off around $70K. Right now the '97 993TTs are bringing that much.
I decided to go with a Tip because of my wife. This way she can move it in/out of the garage if I am not home.
