Is the motor pushed up in that pic or the car just on a lift? I find those rubber coolant sockets move around a bunch when jacking the motor, but settle back to their spot when level. If they were bathed in Pentosin, I'd probably replace. Watch them.

I'm sure you remember there are two O-rings that actually seal the coolant pipe nipple between the two castings. The outer rubber cover seems like a dust cover. I'd leave it be and watch it.

In case you are interested the LUK PN is 541 0122 10 for the Tiptronic/GT2/GT3 PS pump.

Cat was on the ground for those pics. It's definitely a little swollen, it hasn't "moved", but the lower edge is swollen between 4-8 o clock. The rest of the seal seems perfect.

Yes, I'm just going to monitor for now. I'm still not through clutch break-in yet, so trying to get miles on it before I do anything else.

Filled it up yesterday afternoon and drove it about 35 miles. No leaks. I'm going to continue monitoring everything. If it gets to the 500 mile mark (another 280 miles) then I'll consider things to be solid and by then the clutch will be ready for prime time.

It's starting to feel more and more like a solid car I can trust....

So.... finished the 500 miles break in. Did an oil change today. Checked the car over for leaks. None. All is well.

My front diff is making noise - new (used) one is on the way. I'll get that changed and then button up the belly pans and so forth. Time to get this car back in one piece.

Just read the whole thread completely through. What an amazing ride! Thanks for putting all this down. I was thinking I could do something similar in my garage as well. Me thinks this is a mighty big jump from doing some minor maintenance. Lol. I hope you have many of miles of happiness and maybe one day I’ll get in there and take a chance on this type of a job.

Thanks! It's been a fun journey. Lots to love and lots to be very annoyed with about this job. Glad I did it though. I have a lot more confidence in the car.

On that note.... with the 500 mile clutch wear in complete, I went for some full power runs, and the darned thing nosed over and basically died. Went straight to idle. Couldn't even creep in first gear.
Got out and checked all my connections and so forth, thinking I'd blown a hose... nope.

Shut car down, restarted, drove fine.

Check engine light showed a menagerie of weird codes. Got in touch the Marek, over at Markski Tuning.
We did a few diagnosis things.

Eventually pulled the MAF sensor off, which set a host of other codes... PSM, ABS...

Went for a drive.... and now we're cooking with gas! Saw .9 bar (1 bar tune), and the old gal will git! Did a few passes and so forth. Check engine light came back on.... but... only throwing a single code for the MAF.
So.... He's going to write me a code for a Maf-less tune, and we will move on. Glad that she's back up and almost fully functional.

Also, my new (used) front diff arrived today, so I'll be installing that. Post install of that, and the trans cooler and wiring, I'm going to be officially done, and down to just putting smiles on the miles.
The end is in sight.

Oh yeah. Still have suspension to do. Ooops. well... in time. Probably gonna wait a bit for that one....

Congratulations.
With all the spaghetti covering a 996T engine, it takes a detailed plan to get it back together and you only had one small leak.
Hats off to you sir.

Very inspirational! And happy for you that your car is back to running great. Will be eager to see what you do with suspension.

Congrats. There is a certain pride in doing it yourself, learning and doing it right. The only problem is the slippery slope.... Next project,... is that a broken down cheap Bentley I see...

Yes, I'm casually looking for a NA 996 with a blown engine for cheap so I can toss that POS and drop in a 3.6 VR6 from a 957.

Oh you have no idea how much I want an 1930's Bentley Blower....

*drool*

But... Next project will be non-porsche. The Jeep Wrangler (12, lifted, one ton axles, and full suspension) is going to get a roll cage. I've got the cage, but need to assemble and weld it all together inside the jeep. So that's my next "fun" car project. That was actually supposed to be this winter, but the Porsche took over and I wasn't have two vehicles down and in a million pieces in the meantime. so....

Suspension will be nothing special. It's getting the Meyle replacement rubber everywhere, some Feal Coilovers at the highest ride height setting possible, and that's it. For me, it handles plenty well. I'd just like to get rid of my creaky clunky old factory stuff that's seen the end of it's life, at 21 years old and 54k miles....
