Yea, I've always been told to use vaseline on o-rings, and chapstick in the toolbox is convenient. Easy to apply!

Chapstick is just vaseline in a tube, so it's a good choice. Which flavor works best?

Hey ya'll, haven't posted much... but have made some progress.

Final little coolant hoses installed under the car.
Serpentine belt installed
flywheel installed
engine stud hole heli-coiled due to damage
trans drilled and studded for the factory slave cylinder

Damaged hole from previous owner/grease monkey.

Filed this area flat and then marked for holes.

Mock up of new slave.

studs need to be centered.

centered on the other side.

Pilot holes drilled.

This is the hole for the actual pin that actuates the clutch fork.

drilled, and filed to deburr

Studs installed.

All done!!

Next up is wrestling with that clutch fork and so forth and getting the transmission installed.

ECU back in the car, and that buttoned up.

Debating leaving the factory intercoolers for now.

There is a lot of fabrication work I was unaware of to make the Marski intercoolers work with the ducting. Anyone have any pics of this??

I cut a sliver out of the center of the ducts and then you can almost put the top into the bottom one. Then I fiberglassed em back into one piece. I had pics somewhere. Search, there's lots of good writeups on here and the 6 speed forum. It takes a little guesswork to make sure you remove just enough to get them to seal back up nice in the body. Foam/rubber new weatherstripping helps here too. Some will make brackets to mimic the OEM ones to keep the upper/lower clam shells attached to the coolers, but thick zip ties are just as rubust, just not as nice looking. Once bolted back up, they're not going anywhere.

Nice progress!

I"ve found a couple threads, but none using Marksi's big coolers. They're big!!

I had CMS machine the case for the GT2 slave while my trans was there. Best $150 I have spent in a while.

Make sure that you install the clutch fork and move it full travel. It's usually necessary to clearance the bellhousing in the area of the "bump" on the fork where the pushrod sits.

I'm not sure. They were on my old phone. I'll check, but it's basically the same as any you'll find online. There's some good info on 6speed. And I'm running the same cores, 4.5" with slightly bigger end tanks too.

I'll compile it all in December. Dude the list is *really* long. Astronomically long. Heck I just ordered (the last??) coolant hose that I needed.... overnighted.
And won't talk about the costs....

So wow. What a week with this car.

Updates: To say frustrating is not even scratching the tip of the iceberg.

Slave drilling and installing was fine. Everything progressing fine. Installed clutch, PP...

And then realized I made a dumb rookie mistake, and the release bearing was not installed on the PP. I should have read the manual - I know better, but I'm so used to a "push" bearing that goes on the input shaft of the trans, and this is a "pull" bearing installed on the Pressure Plate.

Remove PP, install release bearing.

Set it all up, install trans, get things aligned, and then the release bearing pops off. Odd. There's a TON of resistance getting the transmission installed. We take it apart, look at things, all looks correct.

Put it back together. And the same thing happens.

so.... yeah. fun.

At this point I call it quits for the day. Severely frustrated, not only at the car, but also me for not understanding the underlying issues. I've never not had a trans go back on an engine, and i've done quite a few.

So....

A couple pics.

So at this juncture I contacted the lists and figured out the thick washer for the release bearing was upside down, and I reinstalled that and got it done.

Then I decided to check the clearance of everything and make sure I could get the new GT2 for installed in the trans, and the release bearing and make that "sit" where it was supposed to with the pin.

Well. Guess what. I couldn't.

So I verified I had the correct part number of everything. Everything checks out.....

As far as I can tell it all looks OK. You're sure you have the clutch disk in the right way round?
Maybe I can drive out there and give you a hand. Where are you located? You've got my phone number.
