Default Headlights - going dark

Hi, my first post after lurking for a while.

Decided to paint a set of lights to make the front of my car less polarising & hopefully modernise a little to match the led taillights.
Bigger job than expected & still need to polish the covers but you’ll see what I mean.

Started out with light purchased from Australia that was ex GT3. Yip I know it’s not turbo but pretty much the same apart from the ribs on the underside of the cover/lense.

Trying to decide if I can get all the wires out before baking.

A closer look. This ones wires are in top condition compared to the other light I sourced from USA.

Tight fit but got the job done.

Success! Managed to open. Loads of work cleaning the sealant off both the lense & body to come...

The mirror (chrome) finish was easy to remove just with wet cloth. Got to be super careful not to rub any of that finish off the other bits that reflect light from areas that must stay.

Satin black lacquer. Turned out pretty good.

Here you can see difference which to be honest not sure worth the effort. Will see how they look once fitted to my black 996. Got to rewire the remaining light as the wires are toast. Guy I bought it from did mention he must have a short somewhere as a globe keeps blowing! NO ****! There’s virtually no coating left on the wires.

Lights look great. The car pictures I don't think have the painted light though right? I didn't have the bullocks to take mine apart. I did the laminx-x light tint in mine and for $65 I am happy with the results.

I've been wanting to do this to my headlights, except color match them Lapis. Considering their age I'm afraid to take them apart though.

Correct. I just added some pics because I liked em. I’d like to see how yours look, not sold on what I’ve done.
I only did it once I collected a second set at bargain rates to play with I won’t screw around with my original to the car lights. 👍

Looking good! Can’t wait to see them both on.

I did this with two of my previous cars, but am just a bit worried about doing it on the Porsche... not sure if the headlights would fit in the oven!
