OP, definitely a good place to start!

You were actually only 2k past the factory recommendation, which indeed seems woefully inadequate. I do mine every other oil change.

What fluid do you use? Am thinking as the car isn't being driven at the moment, I may change it too.

Is it the dark color that you are considering "nasty"?

not sure if that reply was directed to me? i never go over the factory rec, in fact i cut it below half changing mine every 40k miles or so.

did you say you change GEAR oil every other oil change?! if so, that's what i would call very labor intensive and highly pro-active!

2fknfast. delvac 1 75/90 with no slip additives ( important ) since im using the wavetrac. prior to the LSD i ran redline.

Nasty would be metallic gear oil...
Thats just used gear oil.
if any oil has a sheen akin to metallic paint in the light, youre looking at future problems.

When I swap the oils out of the Fords, it is the same color as it went in.

That was directed at the thread starter, but you had pointed out the 90k factory service interval.

I use the same thing.

Prior to my transmission rebuild, I didn't want it to get any worse (and I wanted to check on the drain plug). After, I want to make sure I'm taking care of my 5-figure box.

I had mine changed at ~45k miles. According to the mechanic, the oil he removed looked great.

i think 40 - 50k miles is good for street car. if i even feel a hint of "notchiness" it would be time.

but i never do.
