Default Rear Turbo Badge

996TT in arctic silver. I will confess up front that I am one of those concours crazies. So my Turbo badge is black. However, I've seen many many in chrome. I have seen others in black though. So here is my question: Were all badges chrome and some people thought black would look better so they DYI blacked them out. OR was a black badge a factory option on the build sheet?

Many Thanks!

My 2002 996 Turbo came from the factory with a silver (chrome) "turbo" rear badge. It's still on the car.

I don't recall there being an option for a black badge from the factory, but will have to dig out the 2002 order guide to make sure.

So the "black" on the badge is peeling off. So if it is supposed to be chrome...i'll peel it all off. If it is supposed to be black...I'll re-black it. My OCD won't let me do it any other way than how it was originally supposed to be!

My guess is that the black badges that came from the factory over the years were black plastic and not coated.

I think pfbz did a post on making the turbo badge black using plasti coat paint.

There is no option code for a black turbo badge in the 2002 996 Turbo order guide; however, I'm sure someone could have ordered the badge in black through Porsche's Exclusive Department. In that case, it would probably be identified as such on the front trunk options placard.

Yes, I have the build sticker but, sadly, I do not have the secret decoder ring to figure all the codes out.

I think you can find that on this forum somewhere, or on the Internet with a search.

My guess is someone blacked it out post factory build.

And I'm with you on this one regarding wanting "factory original".

I don't believe black or body color badges were an option on 996 Turbos, but there might be identical or nearly identical OEM Turbo badges from later year Turbos if you would rather pay $150-$200 for a black badge rather than having your chrome one painted or plasti-dipped.

If you want a fresh OEM chrome badge, thats easy...
