So if you have a Tune - can you use a stock clutch
So have some clutch slipping issues - 44K miles 2003 Turbo with a softtronic tune.
Had the car leak tested - holds a .9 - 1.0 bar boost - so it has some legs
I've done some searching - seems most on this site are saying go with the Sachs 2.5 or something from Kevin. My mechanic is saying I should stick with stock. I track the car - some autocross - although the last autocross I could smell it burning. What says the braintrust?

Three Wheelin'
My car came with a new stock clutch, has held up just fine over the last 10K miles with a 1 bar tune. That being said, when it done, I'm going with that Sachs, it's a no brainer.

I have Kevin's tune with a stock clutch. The clutch was replaced a month prior to tune. The stock clutch held up just fine over the last 11K miles. Done two Autocross within those miles. For sure will call Kevin up when it's time for a new clutch to see my options.

my old girl is 575 rwhp w its 2nd clutch - a 160k mile car. the last one lasted 90k miles and i only swapped it because the trans bearings turned to mush. it was time, and my dmfw even looked ok. swapped it anyway.
stock oem sachs with the solid unsprung 996gt2 disc will last another 100k miles. unless you burn clutches. i use the clutch to shift gears even even then i usually double clutch.
old habits die hard, and people like to buy stuff they don't need. 2.5 sachs - as is it colloquially known as - is the next "upgrade". but that's just with the 764 added. whatever.

What are the benefits of going to the 2.5 Sachs as many have? What do you gain/lose? If your car has a tune and the rest is stock, the stock clutch should have 500hp. I know the accumulator is a weak point on the stock clutches but it is not expensive or hard to swap when needed (appears, I have never done one).
I need to call Kevin again but I think mine has a tune as I can see 1.0 and occasionally 1.1/1.2 and I am on a stock clutch.

The stock clutch will last a certain amount of miles until it doesn't. The Sachs 764 pressure plate will offer longer life especially if you decide to track or auto X your car.
Here is a good gallery of some great clutch kits..

stock will typically hold if the clutch is in good shape, won't last forever as Kevin has said but can certainly work on a shorter term...duty cycle will determine timeline
the 2.5 clutch is a 'household name' of clutch upgrade around here but the big aftermarket names have some great products too
have roughly 100k km on my Spec setup currently but will be changing up to a factory 7'2RS/8lb f.w. and Clutchmaster fx350 clutch shortly (fairly aggressive setup.... D.M f.w. + fx250 would be a great setup for most)
