2nd Gear Synchronizer

Gbox was before my time so I honestly have little firsthand feedback. I can say Bill Rader Motorsports in Las Vegas is an awesome shop/person to work with and has never let us down.

GBox is one of the best pcar tranny shops. They do good work and stand behind it. I recommend that the OP call and talk to Stan. You will get a really good feel for what type of person he is.
Here is the the thread where GT (Guard Transmissions) and Eric (Gbox sales but not sure he's still there) start their little feud. My last race car had a Gikken, my incoming TT has a Guard. I think very highly of both LSD's and have no dog in this hunt. I just hate negative selling.

Is it that or the fact that GBox switched from carrying Guard to OS Gikken? I think flippantly trashing them on a forum without disclosing that they represent a competitor is pretty low and lacks honor. Obviously you didn't consult Evoms before using their name in your quest to discredit Gbox.

Keep in in mind I don’t make any money on stock rebuilds. I am giving advice for members’ benefit, not my campany’s. Bill Rader or California Motorsports are where people should send their 996tt gearboxes.

Bill radar is the man for porsche transmissions. He built mine as well. I have 997 gt2 rs main shaft with 1-3 heads as well as 1-6 steel syncros. I also have a wavetrac. Can't beat bills experience, turn around, and good pricing

I'm looking at the possible purchase of a 2002 turbo that has an issue with 2nd gear. It shifts up just fine but when down shifting it grinds going into 2nd gear. I'm assuming the 2nd gear synchronizer is toast. I still like the car and am considering purchasing it and having the transmission repaired. I did some searching looking for an idea of the cost and came up with a guess of around $5k. The information was a little dated and I was wondering if someone could give me a more recent opinion on the cost to repair.
Thanks,
Jon
Thanks,
Jon
Hopefully you get out with just a gear and synchro.
$5k sounds light if anything else is needed.

having spoken with both matt @ guard and roger at ca motorsports in the distant past. you could do no wrong with either of them, to be sure.
that said, if you were in CA and needed ANY g50 box work. you have local options that will equal their work, for ( probably ) less money. parts are parts.
outlying areas of the US? go with matt or roger. done.
