Who here has driven the 991 Turbo?
Playing off KM1959's post...I am curious as to the driving experience contrast between our cars and the latest generation. I "lust" after the new, but wonder what it actually feels like. I have yet to have the experience. Back in the day I was close to trading my 1989 Carrera in for a brand new 996 n/a. I wasn't long into the test drive before determining... the trade wasn't worth it. Looking back, I dodged a bullet on that one. Anyway...just curious.

I put the first 1,000 miles on my dads new tts. It’s a very different car. Feels much bigger and heavier. The power is outrageous. Launch control is bitchin’. I couldn’t imagine shifting with a manual on this thing. My dad and I had big worries that he’d hate not having a manual, that was quickly put to rest.
There’s a ton of gimmicks compared to our cars.
If I was in the market for a $200k car...it’s 100% what I’d pick

Everytime I drove one (about 10 times) I couldn't wait for the streets to clear in front of me, and when they did, I'd mash the throttle and in two to three seconds I was well over 100 mph and praying that a radar/laser gun wasn't pointed at me. And it just begs you to keep doing that. Thrilling for sure but equally frustrating as most cars in front of you don't have nearly 600 HP and AWD traction. If I lived by the autobahn it would be in my garage. But I don't.

Dock, I do think a manual would be fun. My dad came very close to buying a base 991 just to get the manual. This car made me a believer in PDK though.

In for the responses. I think a 991 TTS would be simply awesome.
I love a manual, but the 2013 TTS PDK i drove was amazing.

I have driven a 991TTS and there is really no comparison between it and 996TT.
A 991TTS can go toe to toe with a 991 GT3 RS on the track and blow it away in a straight line. The power delivery is incredibly smooth and deceptive. Burry the throttle and you doing 100 MPH+ before you can even blink and 150 MPH+ is just another blink away. It so fast I do not think I would ever buy one because it would kill me.
The one thing the 996TT has going for it is turbo lag. Turbo lag is visceral fun.

That's the sentence you latch on to? It was tongue in cheek and just to convey that PDK shifts way faster than a manual. I didn't say anything about street racing. Referencing your earlier comment, and your slightly holier-than-thou comment, what kind of fun do you think you'd have with it a manual 580 AWD supercar?

I'm also not concerned about "being left behind by my PDK-sporting friends". BTW, what do you call it when someone is trying to accelerate faster than you, and you make an attempt to keep up with them?
What "kind" of fun, or "how much" fun? I'll go with the latter; answer = lots. Driving a manual is what I consider to be an art form. The man-machine interface, and pulling it off well, is what is fun for me. The higher the horsepower/torque, the more fun it is. Not another car has to be around for me to enjoy the experience.
