Default Check Engine Light

Well.... Got my first check engine light within 125 miles of owning the car.

It did just roll over 30k miles. Does a check engine light come on to remind you to do the 30k mile service?

Thanks,

Got the code read... This is what came up. What does this mean?

2 codes, p0491 and p0492 - Secondary air injection bank 1 and bank 2.

I did some searching and realize this could be a vacuum leak. I did hear some people talking about adding octane booster and things like that the code not coming back.

This car came from sea level and had a 3/4 tank of 93 in it when I got it, I used all of that up and filled the car up with 91 (highest we get up here).

Could that be part of the problem?

Default
P0491 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1 - Insufficient Flow
P0492 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 2 - Insufficient Flow

Possible cause of fault
- Electrical fault in power supply or line between relay and secondary air injection pump
- Secondary air injection pump relay mechanically faulty
- Mechanical fault in electrical secondary air valve
- Pneumatic secondary air valve faulty/sluggish
- Electrical fault in secondary air injection pump
- Mechanical fault in secondary air injection pump or secondary air injection pump blocked
- Vacuum system leaking
- Air hose to secondary air injection pump slipped off or constricted

Good chance it's a cracked vacuum line.

Yea, I found that too. Now the fun of sorting out what it actually is...

Could it have anything to do with changing altitude and octane?

Thanks,

I don't think so. Does your car have a tune?

As far as I know, no. However, I have no way to truly check. It does have new plugs from the previous owner.

It's an X50 car and the highest boost I've seen on the highway is 1.0 for a second - normally sticks right at 0.9.

It sounds like a stock tune. My stock X50 ranges from .9 bar to 1.1 bar.

Odds are the culprit is a cracked or disconnected vacuum line. You probably need to do a smoke test first to eliminate that fault. That's what I would do first.

A sustained 1.1 bar?

Looks like your divertor valves failing. They are located on top by the oil filter.
