Default Damn Splitters keep falling off?? Suggestions...

New to this car and I've been to four tracks with it so far, (love it by the way and still learning what she likes and doens't like). But anyway she has an annoying habit of dropping the splitter on the track. First time was at VIR when I had to get off quick when the radiator hose blew. Got into the paddock and wasn't really suprised to see the splitter gone. Second time was at NHMS, going past the treehouse, car gets real light, too much brake too soon felt like ice mode, went off straight...splitter gone. No big deal with these two events, thats just the cost of playing. However this past weekend at WGI going down the back straight just before the bus stop, bump..bump. Splitter gone. Air pressure pulled it off. Happened to my buddy too. We went through three splitters that way. My buddy started using racing tape, vertically from the bumper to the splitter that worked. Just wondering what kind of experiences my fellow track junkies have had and what solutions you've tried.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers! John

John what kind of bolts? Been using the plastic rivets. Would I have to pull the bumber off to use bolts, washers and nuts?

It is very important to use the correct double sidded tape and the plastic rivits. Without the tape air splits the splitter from the underside of the bumper. Isn't it funny what air can do at 120 mph.
the Splitter and underside of the bumper must be clean also if you want it to stick.

You have to completely clean off both surfaces. I use the heavy duty industrial strength 3M double side body mount tape. I believe that it's gray, not the black. You have to get it all positioned properly to line up with all of the holes on the front pan. Then you put in all of the plastic clips. I heated it all with a heat gun to improve the adhesion. Then, I put a bead of silicone sealant to help avoid the aero forces trying to separate the splitter from the body. Some people use tape. This whole process takes several hours and is a PITA. Mine has stayed on for almost 3 years now, in spite of the occasional off track adventure. GL Kyle

no you can try and fit your hand from the bottom lower rear end of the bumper with the car lifted and fit them at least for the 4-5 front holes.. Make sure that the car is cold.
For the rest of them in the sides the plastic rivets are fine.

worked for me

I use duct tape- tie to bumper vertically(rt side/center/left).Just nuf stick for lite excursions in grass and won't rip off my bumper vs bolts. Ugly though but it works : ). Mike

Put a bead of clear silicone where it meets the body. Mine has held for two years. Don't use bolts as they could damage expensive bodywork. The existing system is designed to break loose before damage.

Some use botls but I would highly suggest NOT doing that. The plastic rivets are mean as the weak point in a shear so you don't loose a section of your bumper as well. Just clean the surfaces really well, use thew proper double-sided tape, and attached all the proper fasteners. In addition, run a line of racers tape horizontal to prevent air from getting between the bumper and splitter. In the countless events I have done I never, I repeat, NEVER, lost a splitter.

My car is pretty low. Don't run the splitter at all on the street and use the NAPA plastic rivets on the track. Cover the seam with tape as Dell does (not nearly as nicely or with checkered tape though!).

Joe, the checkered tape nets me another couple tenths on the track over solid color!
