As I have said elsewhere, I think that it's the 996 that is the ideal platform. Yeah, it might be worth less $$ than the 997 (for now, but for how much longer?), but putting a 3.9 into a 997.1 brings it closer to the latter cars. The 996 on the other hand is different and the last of a breed; keep the car pure, and add a 3.9... How can this not be the ultimate
What about the heads? Fresh valves, guides, seats, any porting?

although the CFO won't allow a purchase like this right now I do recall sitting down with PJ over lunch discussing this very upgrade. As a track junkie, take a 6-GT3, strip it and bump up the HP to close to 500. You will have mind-blowing performance for well under the price of a current GT3 or RS.
