Dan, thanks for...

... the information
... your honesty
... your candidness

And of course, the 3.9 is not for everyone, but I'm sure that there are enough of us "maniacs" out there to keep you busy for many years to come

As I have said elsewhere, I think that it's the 996 that is the ideal platform. Yeah, it might be worth less $$ than the 997 (for now, but for how much longer?), but putting a 3.9 into a 997.1 brings it closer to the latter cars. The 996 on the other hand is different and the last of a breed; keep the car pure, and add a 3.9... How can this not be the ultimate

What about the heads? Fresh valves, guides, seats, any porting?

you are right, francois! it suits this car as a keeper.
3.9, motons, the usual mods, strip.........anybody should be happy with the result.

although the CFO won't allow a purchase like this right now I do recall sitting down with PJ over lunch discussing this very upgrade. As a track junkie, take a 6-GT3, strip it and bump up the HP to close to 500. You will have mind-blowing performance for well under the price of a current GT3 or RS.

Damn....I'm drooling now.
