2011 UPDATED THREAD for NITTO NT-01s
Like the R888 thread, I just wanting to keep the information flowing on the NT-01. The last good user feedback thread was by Dell a few years ago.
My old info shows: people run 315/30R - 245/40F as the preferred sizes in 18s. People tend to run around 36F/38R, but not much more than that. After 40, they get greasy.
Any other sizes that are folks running?
Different Pressures?
Setup? [camber around -2.5 seems to be a middle ground]
Life? [~40 HCs]
Street? [yup]
As far as laptimes, how far off Hoosiers are the Nittos? And how much more than R888s?
Cheers,

- 235/40ZR-18 93W on TRM wheels; stock width and offset
- 315/30ZR-18 98W on TRM wheels; stock width and offset
- run hot 38F || 38R
- -2.8 F || -2.4 R
Absolutely love them, but these are the only DOTR I've run. They seem really well matched to my brake setup (Girodiscs, PFC06s, SRF). They don't talk much, but they break loose very smoothly. I have about 30HC on them at this point, but will run them until they cord.

Tried ordering Nittos (245 - 315) today at my local shop. Was told at least one month wait. Ordered Cups instead - will be my first time for me - have been driving on Pilots so far - I'm very curious to find out what the big deal is about.

Probably my mistake for not trying out other sources. With the Michelin mail in rebate price difference was only a 100 bucks to the Nittos. But I keep reading that Nittos will last longer than the cups.

My understanding is that the Nittos will get better and better until they cord, whereas the Cups start off great but fall off at some point.
I ran Cups last year and loved them in 19. Going 18 this year and would go Cup again, but I would prefer 245 fronts, which is not an option with the Cups

18" cups much better than 19" cups. 18" are real cups that stick
Nittos half as sticky as cups but last twice as long.
Nittos exciting sliding sideways in the climbing esses at The Glen. The grip just isn't there.

Thanks Chris, that's quite the endorsement.
I would love to get the Cups again from Braidan this year: Brad gives me good prices and supports the club. He even puts on a lapping day at Mosport (18 Aug if anyone cares ). But I was hoping to try the Nittos this year... if I can get them, that is.
I don't know, the "maniacs" on here seem to like to run wide in the front, 245, even 255. Also, spent literally all weekend researching tires on RL, and I can tell you that the guys LOVE their Nittos... not to mention that they are a bit cheaper.
But since there is no such thing as a free lunch...

Nittos should be available from discount tire
Not bad to learn the car on. They are more forgiving and progressive than cups given their lower performance threshold. They stick pretty well at Calabogie but Calabogie is pretty coarse and grippy. Tremblant not so much. Had the rear end start to rotate on me just after the bottom of the hill at 2 just before the entry to the esses. It was exciting to say the least.
Use them and then put on a fresh set of cups. You will notice an immediate difference.
Not bad to learn on old street tires too. Old tires teach much about car control.

I have pretty much only run Hoosiers for the last 3 or 4 years. Before that I ran cups and RA-1. I just bought some Nittos for my 3rd set of wheels to use when I'm too lazy to pick up my Hoosiers from the track. I'll report back on my initial impression on the Nittos.
As for MPSC, the only blowout I ever had was with Pilot sport cups. After that, I never went back...
