Default Shorter Final Drive?

http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p96198.htm

Anybody install one? Seems much easier than re-gearing.

it's actually cheaper to regear (in terms of labor charge) and cost is very close as well.
but regearing takes more mainteance.
4.0 RP will work, but regearing is better.

How much shorter is it? Fastest track I regularly go to is Watkins Glen or Mosport. I never touch 6th.

What else did you do to your car?

Just installed a Guard LSD and oh boy did it make a big difference. Stability under braking is 100% better.

I'm thinking of upgrading my suspension. Two of my buddies have Motons and love them but I don't know what else I have/should do along with them.

My car is 99% track. 1% is to get gas and take it for servicing.

each gear drops by 17%
however the gap b/n gears are still the same as before.
depends no track, some track the 4.0 RP gives HUGE advantage

you got GT LSD already.
so:
moton CS
RP or regear
lighter wheels, if you are doing 99% track, what wheel you running?

17% less might just work. That would mean top speed would be about 160mph vs 190.

Fastest tracks I run are Watkins Glen & Mosport and if I like a long drive, VIR.
Usually though it is Calabogie Motorsports Park & Le Circuit Mont Tremblant. Tremblant (about 140mph at the end of the longest straight) is slightly faster than Calabogie but about 20mph or so slower than the Glen.

I have BBS LMs and OZ Superleggera III wheels. I know not the lightest around but they have proven durable.

LWFW? I was going to wait until I needed to replace the clutch.

yes top speed drops a lot. but ok for me in nor cal. i be lucky to clear 140mph on any straight. 4th gear stock is all i need. now you know how frustrated i am....

OZ S3 is light.
BBS LM is boat anchor but very strong.
you are fine there.
try to run 255 and 315 hoosiers. 315 will fit no prob
255.... ????

i know many like LWF, i am not a believer in that. when my clutch dies, i will do LWF since it's all there. but i doubt i will do it before it needs attention.

you really want to keep asking questions? VA122 and i will push you off the cliff, at least i warn you now

Upgrades are cheaper than buying a new car and keep things interesting. I like the car. I've been thinking about upgrades for awhile now.

The GT3 I crashed had been upgraded to the 4.0 RP and man what a difference between that and the car I have now! Tracks are short where I live and it was quite noticeable.

Sorry I am just at the beginning of learning about my GT3 and have a few stupid questions;
If it makes that much of a difference, why not do it?
What other changes have to be made to do this?
Estimated cost?

do what?
4.0 ring and pinion?

1. cost, $3500-4000. i think parts alone is 250-3000.
2. if you street drive the car, the rpm is very high for cruising and your 1st gear is.... well. you dont have first gear. the minute you put it in first, you have to shift it to 2nd. it's that short. you blink your eye, you hit redline in first gear. i dont mind. but not everyone would want to deal with it.
3. 4.0 RP wears out much faster than oem RP.
4. you lose top speed. some ppl care about that. i dont.

Thanks, it just seems many people are spending $$$$ to increase HP to gain speed when this might work just as well for the track. What am I missing?

Any idea what the wear out time is, est. in miles?

it's very hard to increase hp any meaningful amount on 6gt3.

Ah, here we go

If you're going to do Motons (and you do want them, they are the best) then go monoball you'll be in there anyway. I'm assuming that you already got upgraded toe links or you'd be getting an alignment every week. But you may want to get the upper dogbones too and be done with the suspension. The rear control arms could use upgrading the the split cup or RS ones. That's about all I can think of right now, ask me again tomorrow. Oh wait get the cup shifter and cable. You'll thank me.

The LWFW is great, I did mine when I did the Guards diff. Easier to rev match wit the shorter gears. The only downside with the 4.0 is that most shops cant do the work in house and they need to send out the gearbox and that's $$
