Default What do these ppi results mean ?

Guys,
I'm just checking out a ppi report of a 6GT3 which I'm interested in. I will go to check out the car personally but in the meantime the owner sent me copies of a ppi report. I'm particularly interested in these statements in the report:
Number of ignitions range 1 = 805
Number of ignitions range 2 = 0
Outside rpm range (upper range) 246.8 h
Outside rpm range (lower range) 0
I guess that these figures make a statement about if the engine has been overreved but I'm not sure about that so any feedback is very welcome.

Type 1 - hitting rev limiter
Type 2 - worse (possible $ shift from 5th to 2nd)

results basically are verifying no type 2 over revs which is good

Nothing to worry about with those results. I might get 805 type 1 overrevs in 1 weekend at the track

I think the math works out to 410 type 1 ignitions per second of bouncing off the rev limiter. So this car has spent two seconds of its life at 8200rpm. That's nothing.

Cheers,

Pretty much the normal Porsche PPI items need to be covered. Do you have any history on this car? Careful inspection of the body is very important too. Tires and wheels are expensive for this model so check them out carefully as well.

It's a one owner car with lot of records available. I was thinking to have my own ppi done next week at Don Rosen Porsche. Any advice where else I could go in Philadelphia ? Any GT3 experts around there ?

Consider Porsche of the Main Line in Newtown Square, or Mike Tillson Auto in Philly

type 2s arent that bad...I hit 8400 with no ill effects. Porsche still warranties the car.

Wink

Porsche wouldn't warranty my limited slip which was crap shortly after 5k miles because of a grand total of less than 1/2 second of type II's (I forget the exact number).

Hey, that's what they said so I went elsewhere and got a better lim slip. Cheaper too. Nice guys, not a real warranty tho.

By the way, I always assumed my type II's came from shifting from third to fourth but getting second gear, twice since I've owned it. I knew immediately what I had done and as the rev's came up I clutched it and came off the gas so I am quite sure if there was an overspeed it was very minor. Incidentally, I never got a PPI because I got the car with a CPO and figured "why bother it will be covered". Wrong. For all I really know, the type II's could have been there before I bought it.

my 2cents:

ppi = good. Do it irregardless of Porsche "warranty".

Type II's: You simply do not know if they were insignificant or not. How can you have any other opinion? 5th to 2nd, yeah, that could be bad but it will log just like my 3rd to 2nd. 8300rpm or 10,000rpm...both type II"S. Right? Not all type II's are serious. The problem lies in knowing the details.

CPO: Why bother? Put the $1,500+ dollars in a secret account

Quick question.. going back to the PPI report I understand the meaning of range 1 and range 2 overrevs but am not too sure on the info quoted in the next two lines (see extract below). I'm guessing outside rpm range (upper range) 246.8 h means that the last overrev occurred in the 266.8 hour of use of the car but what then is the outside rev range lower range?

Number of ignitions range 1 = 805
Number of ignitions range 2 = 0
Outside rpm range (upper range) 246.8 h
Outside rpm range (lower range) 0

Allan is correct at 8200 rpm the engine has 410 ignitions per second. It isn't an hour marker I believe the H means ignitions hits.

Many already use the Durametric testing equipment at home, but I mention it for those who may not know of it. Even though you are getting a PPI, it is a good piece of gear to own. I just cleared a spurious check engine light last week, some CAT code. That alone saved me a 150 mile round trip to the dealer.
I was going to call them to ask about CC911"s question above but they are not open yet so I copied their info below in case someone wants to check with them. I will try later, I believe Durametric data comes up with the "upper/lower range" data too and the "h" code.
