Yes, finally someone mentioned the coolant hose failure problem. This is the most common of all GT3 failures that I've seen and happened to mine as well. When it blows apart you'll blast about 13 gallons of coolant onto the track behind you...Not a good way to make friends. I would replace annually no matter what.

I'm also interested in the AP slotted rotors/anyone have the part numbers for the cup brake ducts?
26 DE days with zero mechanical issues except for pads and rotors/just usual driver issues.
Thanks

I have Alcon disks fitted by JZ Machtech in the UK. Last 5 times at least longer than standard drilled Porsche. Fitted to the front only. 1735 quid including pads and bells.

BTW Porsche supplied rotors are cast, not drilled. If you have seriously bad cracking problems, perhaps you haven't bedded the brakes in sufficiently, its one of the indications.

The 996GT3 lacks brake cooling. This causes premature cracking of rotors when tracked even with race pads. I improved things by adding cup brake ducts and using rs 19 pads in the rear. Rotor life increased 3X

My catalogue of failures are I would guess down to wear and tear and include: brakes, which I upgraded to 6 pot Mk2's, braided hoses, cup air ducts, SRF fluid, Alcon floaters with RS29's initially but they are so expensive I have switched to Performance Friction rotors and pads: gearbox synchros, have had one rebuild and sloppy shifter cured by switching to cup cables; suspension bushes have needed a thorough overhaul, have suffered one broken spring (english roads - not track!); cooling, have had one hose go (luckily in a mild way) and have had a rad replaced; and I am about to replace my front wheel bearings.

I have only had two problems in my GT3. The first was the shift linkage socket wearing out causing the it to pop off from the shifter. The other problem, replaced under warranty, was an oil pressure sensor failure.Otherwise the car has been rock solid.

Here's a shot of the AP slotted, full-floating rotor/hat assemblies. These are also available with drilled and non-floating hats,..

We sell and install a lot of these.

Last time I checked Alcon two piece non floating assembly was $ 750 US a corner in the front. Replacement rotors were $ 400 each.

I have the AP floating slotted. Track use fried my standard drilled rotors. The AP's are great. The hats are pricey, but the rotors are inexpensive. I hear the hats will go first, get loose at the floating pinions. But so far so good.
On GT3's used on the track, the first thing to go is the front brakes. No other problems with mine so far.

I was at the P dealer this week getting my GT3 set up for a PPI and some other things. I mentioned to the service manager that mine had little track time and that should be an advantage. His answer back was "not really". Other than brake wear they've seen little correlation in failures between cars tracked a lot or none. I think most of us think the cars are that solid but it was still nice affirmation when the service manager with many years history says it.
