From Excellence:

While the new GT3 has more technological density — which adds weight — savings have been achieved in other key areas. The doors and hood are now the same aluminum parts used on the new Turbo, while the engine lid and spoiler are made from lightweight composites. The exhaust system is lighter as well, taking 22 pounds out of an area critical to handling balance. Thus, overall curb weight is up by just 32 pounds to 3,075. But this includes 45 pounds for air-conditioning, which wasn’t included in the 996 GT3’s curb weight rating of 3,043. The 997 GT3, then, is actually 11 pounds lighter than the bulk of 996 GT3s brought into the U.S. Porsche says its curb-weight measurement includes a full tank of gas as well as all coolant, motor oil, hydraulic fluids, and seven liters of windshield washing fluid.
Stating the obvious, Excellence could be wrong.

PASM. Looks like it's in the RS. Check out the bottom left button ahead of the shifter.

Also, all pics so far are with PCCBs. I wonder if they are standard?

Will the CF seats come to the US?

How well do plastic rear windows hold up over time?

Check out this comparison link...

PCCB's seem to be optional, PASM included...don't see much differences between this and normal GT3, so a lot of people may have trouble justifying the additional 20K

Why are the lengths different? Is it the bumper "warts"?

Awesome link, thanks.

Based on that spec sheet, the RS doesn't seem like much of a value. Gimme a regular GT3, and I'll throw in the CF buckets and half cage, and pocket the 10k+ for track time.

Porsche ****, ummmm yummy. They say released in March 07, do you think it'll be March 07 production and July 07 delivery?

From what I can see in the photographs the aerofoil might be the exact same one as on the 996 GT3 RS except for the end plates. I think the end plate shape is different and I cannot see the carbon fiber weave. Maybe they gave up making the end plates in carbon fiber since so they are so easily damaged (and hard to manufacture?).

The cage is handy - looks like much better access to the rear load area than in my RS. Also seems like you can unbolt the harness bar on the pax side? (although why you'd bother I'm not sure). It does seem like it might be a long way to run a harness strap to the seat though?

I'm a little underwhelmed so far though, and won't be desperately saving to trade up.

Confirmed by Porsche, it's coming to the US...I've heard 673 units but I don't know if that's total or just US, I assume US.

End of the day it won't matter what it looks like on paper. The GT3 will be great and the RS just a bit better and more precise. You will be happy you spent the extra $20K to get one. Of course that assumes we get the good seats etc... As someone else mentioned I hope it is not a RSA.
