In todays Autocar mag:
Porsche is being tight lipped about the power source for the latest GT3 but indications are it will pack a new 3.8 litre engine based on that used in the Carrera S. With lightweight internals and unique engine mapping, it is designed to rev to over 8000rpm and punch out over 400hp in production trim

Sorry TB, I (we) do appreciate your post and I did not mean to sound rude. However, that particular bit of info was published a few months ago in another magazine and has been a source of speculation and debate around here.
Now if only we could get one of these insiders to look under the car and let us if we are getting case halves or a sump plate.

sorry to appear the **** pedant here, but the info about lightweight internals and 8K limit has not appeared anywhere in print AFAIK and IS new info - however trivial. And the statement "Porsche being tight lipped" "but" indicates to me that the journo may well have been given some info from Porsche which IMO does swing the probability toward the 3.8 S engine being the base motor. You are right though, there was a pic of what was claimed to be a yellow GT3 - if only someone could trip up next to it and have a peek

The GT3 will probably have a 3.8.
The GT3RS will have the 3.6 motor. Thats the reason why there has been conflicting reports about engine type in the car.
If the RS is going to get the 3.6 with 400plus HP, everyone is better off holding onto their GT3 - you can probably easily modify to the higher HP rating of the RS's 3.6 motor, since it will be the same.

Any bets that the modifications of the 3.6 to 400 HP will be nothing more than a change of the specs?
Aren't these engines already producing that power?
Aren't these engines already producing that power?

My car is running 377rwhp, totally stock with BMC air filter. There are car running higher numbers. A 997S is producing around 305-310rwhp stock.

That's definitely true about the power. A couple of weeks ago I was at the DE at Texas World Speedway. This is basically a Nascar track with an infield. During the last run session, I was running with a 996TT and another GT3. When on the Nascar part of the track (basically the straight), I would put some serious distance on the TT. I'd get on the straight at about 50ish mph, and by the end, I'd be hitting an indicated 150. And by the end of the straight, the car felt like it was just beginning to get moving! I was really amazed at how it would pull on a TT in the straight--there must really be some power there. True that the TT is all wheel drive and has the wide body, but I was also running the Cup front air splitter and the 8 degree wing shims. Man, that was fun!
