Paul,
I had about 5,000 miles on my '01 Twin Turbo at TWS. I was running 1:54's on DOT hoosiers but only hitting only 153 on the front straight. A don't think a 415 HP twin can run 160 on the front straight, I doubt that the extra 35 horse on the X-50 would do it either.

I've since sold the turbo and now have a GT-3. I ran about a month ago I was in the 1:58's - however using Pilot Sport Cups. I think the hoosier is a stickier tire. Will be there again in June with the Driver's Edge folks.

BTW, here is a video of me running a 1:54 in the Turbo.

OG,

That's what I would think, similar to the cup car. It should be: prove the equipment under race conditions THEN bring it to the street. PCCB changed all that so I can't trust Porsche to race it first anymore.

No GT3 has ever passed me on a straight. I have a 996TTX50 with upgraded suspension, have gotten it up to 180mph at Summit Point (before braking like mad!)

From PCA rulebook:

All 996 Turbo 3351 450 7.45
04 & later 911 GT3 2920 380 7.68

I just drove an X50 for 2nd time this weekend. No boost below 3500rpm.

At LRP, a stock X50 walks away from my lightly modified GT3, even thought I get a faster exit speed out of the last turn.

We compared an X50 Tiptronic and my car on straight line from 70mph to 130mph last year. The X50 pulled one car immediately, and about 3 cars at the end. He had a passenger and a full tank of gas. The guy was surprised that my car could keep up.

Once I get my car back, I will repeat the track test vs. the X50.

Probably the wet sumper 997GT3 will be faster than 996TT, 996TTX50, 996GT3. Who knows...

Dyno Day, 3 GT3s, all with about 13K miles on them. 2 dyno'd at 312, one (mine) at 322 rwhp. I'm betting your stated 377 rwhp was on a Mustang, which is known to give a higher number.

NJ-GT-

I know you're are correct. There will always be faster and better 911s coming down the pike (I hope), and the current GT3 is one wonderful machine.

I failed to mention that I reduced weight on my TTX50, and there are some other (dealer-authorized) tweeks as well.

AWE dyno day

Check the Fabspeed web site as well. You will get a baseline on the 997S vs. GT3 from the same day (around 50 rwhp difference).

How do you move 3,000+ lbs on the 1/4 mile in 11.86@120.6mph with just 380Hp, a narrow power band and this long gearing?

Hi Curt,

I believe that when you run Hoosier tires that the speedo may read slower due to the larger diameter tires (I assume you ran 245/305's). I remember running with your Yellow Turbo years ago (I have a Lapis Blue Turbo) and you were much faster than I. Granted I know that the 160 indicated is optimistic due to speedo error, but I have personally seen 158 on my speedo prior to turn one on stock sized Michelin Cups (I run in the 1:56's on a good day in the Turbo). I have seen an indicated 162 when running TWS clockwise.

So would you say that the Turbo is faster (at TWS) than a similarly equiped GT3, or do you think the Hoosier would give you 4 seconds/lap?

By the way, I was in the white 993 RS a few months ago on a rainy Lone Star DE at TWS. Your GT3 was very quick in the wet and definitely had more power than my 993. I have retire the Turbo from track events to start club racing.

Not to be skeptical, but with slicks I was running 1:20 flats at Summit in my GT3 and the BEST I ever saw at the end of the main straight was 156. It's kind of hard to imagine that you are 24 mph faster then me. What kind of times are you turning there, and what is done to your car?

I looked at the thread, and as I said, Mustang Dyno. These are known to give readings 15% to 20% higher than DynoJet or DynaPack dynos. My 322 rwhp given a 15% parasitic loss is 378 crank hp, very near the 381 Porsche claims for the GT3.

Your 377 would translate to 444. Ain't gonna happen, IMO.

My dyno run was done in a DynoJet Research @ TurboTrix Racing, but it's uncorrected. I will stop by the place, to get the corrected figures.

I don't think the Hoosiers are good for 4 seconds a lap at TWS. The difference in lap time is a combination of the Pilot Sport Cups and my inexperience in the car. As the weekend progressed I became more comfortable and was beginning to remember the places where I picked the speed the enabled the 1:54's in the TT. That said, I suspect the Hoosiers might be good for a second or two.

Time will tell.

Regards,

Curt
