Default How to blow by a GT-3 with ease...

Out at Streets of Willow on Saturday. Came on to the front straight and they were waving the passing flag at me and I thought "why are they waving that - there is no one behind me?" when all of a sudden whoosh.... this guy in the Stolh (?) blows by me like I was on the brakes (I was flat and probably going over 80 or 90 when he passed me).

Never saw him until he went by - the car was so low. My Dad snapped this photo right as he sets up the pass leading onto the main straight. I notice I'm way off line here.....

Little motorcycle engine. Weighs less than 1000lbs and has real levels of downforce.

www.stohr.com

Look up Sunday Driver on rennlist. He races one and just had a top 10 finish at the SCCA National Runoffs in Sept.

I had a Radical tuck in behind me like that at Laguna before, back when I had my old 996. I'm good at watching my mirrors or else I never would have seen him.

Street legal like the Radical? hahahaha ...

I would just love to drive a Radical around on the street for a little while (which is probably about how long it would take for a housewife in her SUV to run right over the top of me).

Stohr. Depending on options, it is about 800 lbs without driver. Almost all have been delivered with Yamaha R1 engines. That is about 150 HP stock. My full race motor is ~185HP. Sequential 6 speed with paddle shift (cable operated).

The Stohr is usually around 5 seconds per lap faster than a Radical SR-3. Should be able to run under 1:20 at Big Willow with a driver like me behind the wheel - 1:17 or better with a real hotshoe. Lots of grip - ~2.5 g's on fast corners but since they are pretty low HP and fairly high drag with the aero, they run out of steam at about 145 mph (just no need to slow down all that much). While I have not had it on Big Willow, based on driving my Radical there and the differences, I think that T9 is flat, entering at ~145mph and letting the turn scrub the speed. T1 would be flat or very close to it. Others, who have driven a Stohr at Thunderhill, take T1 flat there.

So basically it's like driving a Spec Miata..... You're flat almost everywhere, the only difference is that flat out is 145

That HP is for a CSR version - Hyabusa powered. Yes, they can hit about 160 mph, but it takes a very long run, like at Fontana. At most road courses, I see about 135-145 top speed.

Price is in the mid to high $50k range unless you go wild with carbon body and depending on what engine you get. I suggest a stock engine to start with. When you can use all of that, then maybe consider a race motor. HOWEVER, lap times are generally not any better with a race motor. Less torque off the corners and harder to drive. But they give you some top speed advantage so in an important race, like the run-offs, a race motor is important.

The model you see is a full on race car. I don't think it is really suited to track days. Stohr is developing a track day car that should be out soon.

Ummm, that depends on which Radical you were referring to.

The SR3 Turbo is 320HP!!

The soon-to-be-released SR8 will be 360hp+ !

Well, it was impressive!

TRhe guy had been running over at the big track and came over to SOW to run a couple of laps - he must have known the organizers.

I watch my mirrors well but this guy caught me so fast I never noticed him until he went by!
