Thumbs up Hockey Pucks

I just bought 22 used hockey pucks from Ebay. Anyone interested in a set for jacking etc.? They will cost $.75 ea. plus shipping, let me know how many you want and where to ship them to. First come first serve!

for those of you who use them between jack stands and the jack points, how do you do it? My jack stands have a steeply stepped "U" and first I planned to cut a slot in the flat part of the puck so it would not slip on the jack stand, but the "U" is deep enough that it would contact the puck only at the tops of the U's arms, if you can imagine that. That might be enough support, but maybe it would be better to cut the puck into two semi-circle-shaped pieces and then carve the rounded part to fit in the "U". That would support the puck material more, but the part of the puck contacting the jack point would be smaller. Which is better, or is there another way?

Hello mate,

You cut off the top of your jackstand below the U, then you get your favorite machinist to make you some of these.

These were designed by Mike J.

Holy cow! Does the raised bit in the top image extend into the car's jack pad?

What are the lower pieces? Do they attach to the riser on the jack stand and then mate with the upper piece?

Tell me this is MASSIVE overkill, please!

The AC jackstands are the bomb...

I had a set of U shaped top AC jackstands lying around, and I didn't want to spend twice as much for a new set with flat tops. So I cut two diagonal wedges off each of four hockey pucks, on opposite sides, so that they lay down flat and nicely between the arms of the U. I also use an uncut puck on top of my AC jack itself, so as not to ding the sides of the car.

Right. These are well engineered and the top U plate gives you a pivoting head. Safest system I have seen.

So you can raise the back only and not risk becoming road pizza. AC jacks are neanderthal in comparison. IMO of course!

On a GT3, U's won't work. The u gap is too small to fit the main rear suspension member and they won't work on the front jack points unless they are modified as others have mentioned...

The U piece on my jack stands is (form memory) about one inch wide and two inches deep. I plan to place pucks between the U and the jack points on the car. Back to my original question, for those who have done that do you keep the puck flat or slice it in half? I described the second choice as: cut the puck into two semi-circle-shaped pieces and then carve the rounded part to fit in the "U". That would support the puck material more, but the part of the puck contacting the jack point would be smaller than leaving the puck whole and fiting it atop the stand.

There was a pretty good write-up on the 996 board re jacking up your car. I believe GT3 works the same way.

BTW- In post jacks are covered by a product called Plasti-Dip. I just received my order of Plasti-Dip last night and will report on how my jack stands end up sometime next week.

On the 993 Forum regarding the pivoting heads for jack stands.

Pics are worth a 1000 words. Which set up would you be under?
