Ahhh, so that's what that is!

Anyone else get a strange pinging of a medium weight spring in the front end somewhere on same slow turns, such as backing out of a drive way?

Also anyone else's front wheels foul the inner wheel arch/cowling area on full lock slow turns?

Under 5 mph the cars sounds sickly all the time, once above 5mph it's sweet and silent as a sewing machine. (excepting exhaust & intake noise)

Groaning and the occasional "clunk" from the LSD is normal. Mine do it as well as does the GT2.

The metallc sound from the front end is the springs moving in their perches. There is no rubber bushing in the system to isolate the shassis from this noise. The GT3 uses a monoball metal to metal mount like the race car. Said monoballs prevent unwanted compliance in the suspension to maintain the geometry under high loads. I get it whenever I have to make a sharp turn and especially on an uneven surface.

I do not have an issue with tires fouling. Not sure what this means, I assume rubbing? with the OEM tires. I did have a minor clearance issue using hoosiers which left thread-like strips of rubber in the wheel wells.
The Hoosiers were a tad too large!

thanks guys at least I got that one right! Now if I can figure out the exhaust rattle@2200. This board is great, the trouble with limited prod cars is you dont know what is normal. I went through that with a F355 8years back. I also enjoy doing the work I have a lift in the garage. I'm not to sick am I

I wondered about that at first too but the E46 M3 I traded for the GT3 also made a lot of strange noises at low speeds- all normal LSD sounds but at first they are a little disconcerting! It seems like the car does not like slow tight turns- almost like it has a live rear axle...

Ski - Exactly. I get it when I turn tight to get out of the garage and then I hear the front springs as I go over the lip of the driveway with the wheels turned. All part of the charm.

Macfly, I have noticed this sound when turning slowly after first starting the car and driving away. Sounds like a "boing" which goes away after driving a few minutes. I have only noticed this when the temp. is below 35 deg.

Yes to your second question as well.

Thanks! I have been wondering about that myself. I thought that one of the shock dampners might be sticking. Now I can rest easy.

NJ - it was in the front and Hoosier suggest a 245 which I thought was a little odd. They fit but I had hair thin shaving of rubber in the wheel wells on the calipers etc. The 235 would be a better fit I think. I only used one set because they 'went' away after about ten heat cycles. I wasn't too pleased because I could not keep them from rotating on the rim - out of balane after two laps.

Regards,

Jim, I also have this rattle frequently during this rpm range. See my post from 9-11-03 re: GT3 rattle. The rattle comes from the right side and sounds like a stack of plates rattling.

That "stack of plates" sound is the sound of a loose front strut.

Metal, my rattle actually comes from the right rear tire area. I even had a Porsche tech ride in the back seat with the cover pulled up and he could not figure it out. He offered to start taking it apart and I said no thanks. I had just received it a month earlier and did not want them performing exploratory surgery.
