I think you pull the whole cable out through the hole. The other end will fit through the hole. That is the emergency release cable, Part No. 12 here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=803-00

No it's not the emergency cable , I've already disconnected that . This is a 2004 car .

Yeah I think it is the emergency cable. There should be three. One for the electric release from inside the car. One from the electric release from inside the Frunk. One manual cable to use when your battery dies that is routed to the right front fender area. At least that's the way my 2004.5 C4S is setup.

Not the emergency cable because the one I already disconnected pulls the e cable end . I think I might have to take the bumper off to find the end

Does anyone know if the red plastic cover on the release lever can be ordered as a replacement? I could not find it in the PET.

I'm with Billy on this one.

I had to service my front lock and the cable that's connected to the red handle is the emergency release cable. Why not remove the fender well plastic and see if you can pull that cable through to the lock.

Good luck. But don't cut off the crimped end!

I took the bumper off , on post 2002 cars there is a second actuator on the same side of the latch as the emergency release cable .

So you disconnect the key fob actuator cable on the driver's side , then the emergency cable that sits under the headlight on the passenger side.
Then take off the frount bumper cover to get at the second actuator (for the lever inside the trunk) , the cable end is hockey stick shaped you twist it sideways then up and release it then pull it back through the latch . Once you do that you can remove the latch and change it .

So for the record , it wasn't the emergency cable .

1999 996 frunk latch lock mechanism (trunk)
So I had to replace my frunk hood latch - the hood was jammed and stuck closed, and the only way to get it up (no pun intended), was to involve two people (again, sorry for the pun), and then one person had to pull up on the lever (sorry), and the other person had to stick their fingers in the tight spot (again, sorry) between the hood and the bumper and pull up.

I ordered the part from Pelican Parts and the whole thing comes as one complete unit. I'm glad I just replaced the whole thing, as this car is 18 years old. Anyway, here's a picture of the latch lock mechanism

An occasional shot of white lithium grease on the lock assembly really helps keep things working. And another opportunity to recommend relocating the emergency release cable to just inside and behind the front bumper tow hook plug. Makes it so simple when trying to access the frunk with a dead battery or busted main cable, or for those with electronic release latches that go kaput.

Mine looks like that except I have a rubber grommet stuck in there (where actuator cable meets latch mechanism). Seems you're missing that.
