Default just noticed and its not in the owner guide

so had to replace a burnt out map light in my 03 996 C4S , that was no problem but as I took the center lens off I discovered a small hole and a corresponding dip switch. I can't see what this does, can anyone help clarify?
Pic attached , its the little hole in the upper right that I am questioning

Looks like a light sensor warning light someone had at some time at (first glance).

That is the dimmer adjustment for the light. Click once and it dims, click again at it brightens.

Looks like you replaced with LEDs?

Any thoughts? They look very white as opposed to the standard yellow glow

LEDs a few years back, I never noticed the little dip switch until I had to replace a bulb. Knowledge is power so glad to have an answer from the community

There's not much not covered in the manual - just difficult to find sometimes. Here's what you were looking for (page 112 in the 2003 manual with pictures):

Light-emitting diode in the interior light
Changing the brightness of the light-emitting
diode:
~ Press switch C with a pointed object (such as
a ball-point pen).
The brightness changes.

I believe all 996s came with that as standard equipment.

Those wacky Germans just can't do anything in a normal fashion. Why "hide" the switch in a little hole? Why not just have a normal brightness level switch?
