ok , I see that this forum
Is very alive

ok pictures :

The car arrives today in the repairer for diagnostic...

I do not have any regrets, this car to give a lot fun.
If repair costs are too high
I do not think I have to repair the engine
But already bought a reliable (fix IMS) and reconditioned engine

I'm with dporto on this one. Watching, learning and eager to see the internals.

My drain pan looked like that once, and I about had a stroke. My pan was full of silver and copper glitter. 30 or so of the longest seconds of my life later, I remembered I'd recently ground off some stainless bolts and sawed through some copper stock on the same bench where I store that oil pan. Is there ANY chance that the debris was introduced accidentally?

It's hard to tell for sure, but it sure looks like a mound of ferric debris on the drain plug, plus some copper-colored sparkly bits in the oil. If so, man...sorry.

These are the times that try men's souls. By "try men's souls," I mean "resist the urge to fill it up with clean oil and drive it to CarMax." Please don't be one of those guys. There is a special place in hell for the people who dump their problems on the next guy down the road under the guise of "I sold it to an evil corporation, so it doesn't even MATTER that the person who actually got screwed is the poor SOB who spent more money than he had to just so he could be a reliable used car from a reputable dealer."

For those "Max Attackers" out there (thanks for that one, Raby), justice will be sudden and severe. Someday in the afterlife you might be sitting there peacefully taking care of business prior to your morning ablutions...and then the seat will grow tentacles to hold you down as the toilet itself turns into a lava bidet. You know, or something.

Good luck...

IIRC the OP - the current owner bought the car in this condition fully expecting to rebuild/replacer the engine. If I'm mistaken, I apologize in advance if I'm correct, I'm still looking forward to what the rest of the internals look like...

yes Dear Porto

I bought this 996 informed,
no regrets
I had a lot of fun with.

for me the engine of the 996 is consumable
(5% total failure for this IMS problem on the web
I think this engine is not reliable
it will break during is life)

If we do not accept the risk
Do not buy 996
Which remains the cheapest model on the occassion market in Europe
