Hello,
I'm Joe, I'm new to the site. I've been gaining a lot of great information on the site recently. I have a 2001 966 Carrera 3.4 I love the car since day 1. I bought the car with 60k miles on it, a young gentleman owned the car and he turned it into a orange gt2 look alike. I mean to tell you he went the whole nine yards, then jumped over the left field fence with these silly parts and paint And stickers . I bought the car with one thing in mind, get her back to original. Luckily he did not completely destroy interior, but I had to buy a lot of interior parts ! My intention was to repainted to original or close, pull all body pieces spoiler etc, etc ETC. well I did. My painter was a middle of the road guy, maybe . But anyway after 1000's spent it's now descent in my opinion only, yes some overly affectionate orange can still be seen places along with middle of the road silver painter overspray. Now onto the engine, its been neglected, so ims replaced by the original owner at 45k. Then knucklehead got it and blinged it out , now I have it reversed back to stock form and I'm running into a problem with a cam sensor code with miss fires. took it to a dealer and he ran that code, he suggested to let him change sensor and diagnose again. I left there went to a go fast Porsche builder and he said same , but he threw in a possibly that the engine could have a verocam related problem, seems to be electronic and not mechanical , could be the main culprit of the sensor code , So please help with any advice on what to do, and if I'm going in a good direction with getting this sweet ride back to full glory!

Thanks Pinks, I'm still working on her. Appointment Tuesday with a great Porsche Guy, he said he would slap a sensor in her then diagnose, then we will go from there. Ive been dumping oil for 2 days now, 40 quarts of mobile 1 and 4 filter, it's clean now, but o man, you should have seen what was coming out the filters, Amazing how much better she is running now after all this work reversing from years of storage and neglect.

Congrats and welcome. I have a bone stock 996 and just love these cars in their original shape. Granted, mods done tastefully are often beneficial, but I've modded some many times that I'm now happy with my car as-is.
Good luck with the restoration.

Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement. Before pictures I had fully planned to get, but when the 18 wheeler driver that brought me the 996 from out west while backing it off the trailer he ripped the entire frontend off!!! So I didn't take any pictures what so ever. The car went straight onto a rollback from my driveway in a matter of minutes. As far as the nasty junk coming from the filter, no no pictures.

Today the 996 is getting the suspensions components cleaned, rear underneath and everything I can get to for now without my lift I need to order soon. I can see what needs replacing after all is like new clean. It's a real mess under here , this is good times for me. Cheers.

Wow, what a process, congrats on restoring it to its original form.
I hope you got it for a great price considering you had to respray it!

Thanks for all the kind words, well I didn't get it cheap, it had over 20k in aftermarket parts installed. I did get a pretty penny for all the parts after removed from the 996. I just order a set of torque solutions semi solid mounts, we are going to window seal stuff the transmission mounts and get my camshaft position sensor in this coming week. Man for the South Carolina guy, we aren't that far apart right now, IaM is headed to Japan soon, I'm heading back to Oceanside soon

Southern Man, I have no ideas how to contact the original owner, this car was brokered for me, I had someone find the car, It had been in storage For years, the Car was neglected for years before it was stored. I had a Porsche broker find the car buy the car and delivery of the car, I did not do anything but say yes or no to his findings. Then he came across this 996, it was nothing I wanted because it had way to much stuff throughout that was not stock. We talked about the car and I wanted a hobby, something to do now that I have the time on my hands and some a little cash. So I bought the car wanting one thing, bring her back to original and help her out. So that's what's been going on for a few months now. I'm and I'm about done, we have the engine mounts and one sensor and a few suspensions parts to button up then she is mint in my opinion only.

These are the engine mounts, my car is not a daily driver, it's a toy And relief of stress to me only, the vibration I'll welcome, stiff rides are more than welcome. I do hope these are as good as they claim, lifetime warranty, so can't really go wrong, I want to buzz around
