I split 10s once. At a $1 blackjack table in Laughlin, NV back in 1990 during desert strike warfare training. Crappy little backwater casino next to the Navy base. Almost got my *** kicked by a 70 year old local - might have even been a woman (it's all a little foggy by now). But I know I'll never split 10s again.

You know when you are sitting at a blackjack table and you get "that feeling"? You know, that something-something in the pit of your stomach that says "I know the Dealer is showing a 3, but I've got two face cards. All I need are two more face cards or...just take what I get and let the Dealer bust. Fu#k it! I'm going for it!!!!"
The bonus is when you get to hear the Dealer yell to the Pit Boss, "SPLITTIN' 10's!!!" Plus, the look on everyone's face is priceless...

There aren't many engineers or scientists at the gaming tables. The one time I talked to a pit boss about odds I got out my calculator, and he said 'look, if you are gonna use a calculator to figure the best odds, just go play blackjack and accept the house is favored in all games a little'. Made sense, so I played blackjack for about 3 hours and lost $70. It was a decent $23/hour lesson is something I already knew. Players don't 'win'.
