Have had a few p cars and now in a modded 997 (pic attached)
But been poking around for another car. Either a daily driver or a possible more retro track like mini build. As a daily looking at 996tt cars but can't shake what 30k ish (ok may creep to 35) could build me in a 996....
I think if I went 996 would want a 40th anniversary car, black interior well optioned. Add some lowering springs, (prefer coil overs but to keep costs down just springs to drop the car a bit), a techequipment bolt in (to factory belt mounts) roll bar, remove back seats and some new shoes... black Fuchs with matte silver lip, finally a retro duck tail, some modest exhaust work (gundo) maybe an EVO air box.... Finish it off with a rennline pedal kit, boards and flat bottom steering wheel alcantara wrapped...match the wheel with an alcantara shifter. I think this could be done in the 30k ish range (parts bought used mainly) if the car was bought well. Would have a neat retro water cooler.....
Will say wish the anniversary cars came equipped with the turbo brakes as the 996 c4s cars did.
I know I know at 35k now in the used higher mileage 996tt range... But if wanted to stay in the none turbo 996 world this would be my build....
As a final comparison can get into a very nice lower mileage early 997s these days in the 40-45k range. (35-40k if ok with a it higher miles 50k plus) Just bought mine last year... 23k miles and some great mods. I took this price point path already but now looking for second p car...(which I added to as I can't leave anything alone)
Nice active forum the 996 has.... Enjoy the week end.

Zero interest in having a car where motor worth more then the car by choice.... A base 996 with a 4.0 will not be the best track car (base 996 suspension meh) and still be a bit Fugly... Love flat6, my car has the complete stage 2 IMS solution from them.

I bought a '02 NB Coupe that had a failing IMS but no serious engine damage for the very low teens. I put a 3.8 Raby DE motor in the car. Then, I did the suspension and updated to a modern double din radio. Next steps over the next many years of ownership will be wheels (the Raby motor is overwhelming my 17" wheels on the track, have to be real late and gentle on the track out power application), interior (steering wheel, e-brake handle, center console and front seats) and probably rear wing (wing may actually help the traction issue, so may do this before bigger wheels).

Buy a 996.1 roller and put an FSI track performer plus 3.8l in it.
And an M030 stock suspension with NT01s is a freakin blast on the track.
David, sounds like you need to look at an LSD. Even a TB like a wavetrac would probably help that quite a bit and wouldn't cost a fortune.

As much as I loved a LSD in my S2000 and even my Type R, I cannot financially justify the $2500 for a car that is on the track 3 times a year. The other items on my list have more of a dual purpose (aesthetics, performance, etc.) that I will get more "use" out of.

1.) I love your 997
2.) The 40th Anniversary have the X50 package from the factory, so I would do COILOVERS not springs and complete the exhaust system then mess with the interior.
